Shelly Tremblay scored in overtime to lift the University of New Hampshire to a 3-2 win over Endicott in the Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament championship on Saturday in Biddeford.
The top-seeded Nor’easters improve to 15-5 and earn the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA Division III tournament. No. 2 Endicott ends the season 11-9.
UNE took a 1-0 lead in the first quarter when Sarah Padellaro scored from Bailey Lynch. Endicott took the lead with goals by Lily Farnham and Lindsay Bruns. Grace Bazin scored in the third quarter for UNE to force overtime.
CASTLETON 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Haley Lassen and Emily Harris each scored as the third-seeded Spartans (14-7) edged the top-seeded Huskies (15-8) in the Little East Conference championship game in Gorham.
Adelle Surette scored in the third period for Southern Maine to tie the game at 1 before Lassen scored in the fourth for Castleton, which earns the conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
SOUTHERN MAINE 3, WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 1: Gaby Panagakos scored the go-ahead goal in the first overtime and Julia McKenna added a goal in the second overtime as the top-seeded Huskies (17-3) won their first Little East Conference championship with a victory over second-seeded Wolves (13-7-1) in Gorham.
Catriona Gould staked USM to early lead. Western Connecticut tied it early in the second half.
The Huskies earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 3, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 0: Isabella Montalvo, Gabby Sansone and Lindsay Reidy scored as the top-seeded Golden Bears (13-5-2) defeated the second-seeded Nor’easters (11-6-3) in the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship game at Springfield, Massachusetts.
Ariel Martin made five saves for UNE.
MEN’S HOCKEY
UCONN 3, UMAINE 2: Justin Pearson scored a short-handed goal with 4:24 left in the third period as the Huskies (9-1-1, 5-1 Hockey East) beat the Black Bears (2-6-1, 0-3-1) in Storrs, Connecticut.
Maine had tied the game just over a minute earlier on a goal by Lynden Breen. The Black Bears went up 1-0 on a goal by Felix Trudeau in the first. UConn scored two short-handed goals, one by Matthew Wood and one by Chase Bradley, in the second to take the lead.
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 5, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 3: The Nor’easters (2-0, 2-0 CCC) scores two third-period goals and beat the Golden Bears (1-3, 0-2) in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
Collin Heinold and Daniel Winslow each scored twice for UNE. Jared Christy also scored.
John D’Aniello scored twice and Shane Miller once for Western New England.
HOBART 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Luke Aquaro scored in the second period to lift the Statesmen (4-0, 2-0 NEHC) past the Huskies (0-3, 0-2) in Geneva, New York.
Hobart took a 1-0 lead in the first on a goal by Ignat Belov. Southern Maine tied it less than three minutes later on a goal by Austin Marini.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
VERMONT 7, MAINE 2: Evelyne Blais-Savoie scored two goals to power the Catamounts (7-4-1, 5-2-1 Hockey East) past the Black Bears (6-7, 4-4) in Orono.
Alyssa Wruble and Grace Heiting scored for Maine. Brooklyn Oates made 21 saves.
WILLIAM SMITH 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Elizabeth Macmurray, Kayla Ketchabaw and Izzy Friedman scored as the Herrons (3-0-1, 2-0 NEHC) beat the Huskies (0-4, 0-2) in Gorham.
Haley McKim made 40 saves for USM.
WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 1, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 0: Katie Cronin scored in the second period as the Golden Bears (3-1, 1-1 CCC) beat the Nor’easters (2-1, 1-1) in Biddeford.
Rieley Jessie-Gerelli stopped 51 shots for Western New England. Delanie Corcoran stopped 27 shots for UNE.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
SOUTHERN MAINE CC 63, NAVY PREP 56: Chandler Schmidt scored 20 points as the Seawolves (2-0) beat Navy Prep (0-2) in South Portland.
Jordan Pennick chipped in with 16 points. Nyles Howard had 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
