“Trunk or Treat” and chili cook-off planned
A chili cook-off and “Trunk or Treat” event will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Holy Cross School parking lot at 436 Broadway.
The cook-off starts the night off, with the “Trunk or Treat” to follow at 6 p.m.

PORTLAND
Music organization hosts free concert
240 Strings will offer a free community concert by acclaimed cellist Jing Li at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at First Parish Church, 425 Congress St.
Li, who is 240 Strings’ new resident cellist, will be joined by other resident musicians Tracey Jasas-Hardel and Anastasia Antonacos, and guest flutist Nicole Rabata. The concert includes a tribute to recently deceased classical musician, George Crumb, as well as works by Bohuslav Martinu, Undine Smith Moore, and Kenji Bunch.
Join church’s hymn sing event
Woodfords Congregational Church (UCC) will celebrate its 150th anniversary year with a Community Hymn Sing at 4 p.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary at 202 Woodford St.
Cultural traditions and generations have their roots in the songs of the church and music selections will feature varied German, English, evangelical, gospel, jazz, and contemporary sources and genres, all accompanied by organ, piano, trumpet, saxophone, and a variety of percussion instruments.
The program is open and free to all.

Online bidding for “Thanks4Giving” festival now open
Our Lady of Hope Parish (St. Pius X Church, St. Joseph Church, and St. Brigid School, all in Portland) will open online bidding Friday in advance of its “Thanks4Giving” Festival of Trees and Silent Auction event, set for Nov. 5, at St. Pius X Church, located on 492 Ocean Ave.
The trees will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 5. During the free preview hours, individuals can take a stroll through the trees and purchase raffle tickets for the beautifully decorated and themed trees of various sizes. Each ticket is $1 or 25 tickets for $20.
The winners will be picked at a reception featuring a silent auction, jazz music, and food which will be held in the hall from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Online bidding for the silent auction begins at noon Friday and ends at noon Nov. 4 by visiting ladyofhopemaine.org/news/silent-auction-and-festival-of-trees-event.
The Festival of Trees during the day is free to attend, but to purchase tickets to the evening reception, visit ourladyofhopeportland.weshareonline.org and pay online or call Paul Leblond at 253-9856. All Souls’ Walk perfect for whole family
The Brick Store Museum will once again make spirits come alive for one afternoon for its 19th annual All Souls’ Walk on Saturday. The popular Halloween event features continuous tours through Hope Cemetery beginning at noon, with the last tour departing at 3 p.m.
The narrated historical walks begin at the Brick Store Museum at 117 Main St., and cover a half-mile loop through Kennebunk’s Hope Cemetery, lasting approximately 75 minutes. Costumed interpreters portray historical figures and share their stories of love, loss, and fate. Not too spooky, it’s a perfect activity for the whole family. Participants will visit more than a dozen gravesites and learn local history through the fascinating and often tragic tales of residents from bygone eras.
Tours conclude back at the museum, where guests are invited to enjoy the event’s Fall Arts Fair and view the museum’s new exhibitions. In addition to the in-person tour, the museum will be offering a smartphone tour in which visitors can watch videos of all of the actors while touring the cemetery at their leisure.
Tickets are $10 per person, children under 12 are free. Advanced reservations are encouraged, though there will be “walk-in” spots available (first-come, first served). Tickets can be reserved in advance at the Brick Store Museum, or online at brickstoremuseum.org. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date will be announced.

Poet, professor next in lecture series
The Pasco Lecture Series returns for a conversation with American poet, writer, editor, and professor Wesley McNair at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Louis T. Graves Memorial Library at 18 Maine St.
McNair will discuss his newest work, “Late Wonders: New & Selected Poems,” released in September.
Light refreshments will be provided. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing after the discussion.

Library updates weekly offerings
Wells Public Library will host the following youth events this week at 1434 Post Road:
• A Teen Challenge: Paranormal Passport event will be held at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, challenging teens in grades 5 and older, to work together to solve puzzles with a paranormal theme. Snacks will be provided.
• A children’s Halloween party will be at 6 p.m. Thursday. Kids and their families are invited to dress up in costume and come to the library to participate in a spooky scavenger hunt, play ghoulish games, and make creepy crafts.
• Mother Goose Storytime will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday, inviting children, ages 0-24 months, and their caregivers to engage in lap activities, rhymes, songs, and fingerplays.
These events are free and sponsored by the Friends of the Wells Public Library.

World’s only ‘piano windtet’ hits the stage
Bay Chamber will present a performance by Ensemble 4.1 at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Rockport Opera House at 6 Central St.
The only “piano windtet” of its kind, Ensemble 4.1 is made up of four wind soloists from top German orchestras and one pianist. The quintet is devoted to celebrating little known works from the late 19th-century including the enchanting Gieseking’s “Quintet for Piano and Winds,” which they will perform in this concert, alongside movements from the “Quintet for Piano and Winds” by Mozart, and a sparkling arrangement of Gershwin’s “An American in Paris.”
Tickets are $35 for adults age 35 and over, $20 for adults ages 22-34 and pay what you wish for those aged 21 and under.

Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Boyhood Home to host party
Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Boyhood Home will be the site of a fundraiser Halloween party from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at 40 Hawthorne Road.
The festivities will include music, dancing, contests, and valuable prizes. Costumes are encouraged and the event is BYOB.
