Fall festival touts many offerings
Harvest Fest will unfold along downtown Kennebunk on Saturday in a free, daylong event featuring many family-friendly activities.
• A farmer’s market will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Garden Street Municipal Lot.
• The Kennebunk Free Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 112 Main St.
• Waterhouse Center activities will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes free pumpkins for kids, games, face painting, a photo booth, a scavenger hunt, crafting and food.
• The Brick Store Museum will offer free admission at 10 a.m. to view the exhibit “The Great State of Maine Illustration,” make your own scarecrow and add a message to the museum’s Kindness Rock Garden.
• The Mousam River Wildlife Sanctuary on Water Street will offer a nature walk at 10 a.m., lead by arborist Alex Peacock. It is free and open to the public but advance reservation is required by emailing info@kennebunklandtrust.org.
• A costume parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. Families and children are welcome to walk in this parade and costumes are highly encouraged! Parade lineup starts at 11 a.m. on Water Street and proceeds down Main Street.
• Live music from the Scharff Brothers from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by the Dock Squares from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Tibbetts Plaza on Main Street.
• A skate park demo from noon to 2 p.m. at the park located at Factory Pasture Lane.

WESTBROOK
Fabric sale proceeds benefit sewing school
A fabric sale to benefit Common Threads Sewing School will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Common Threads, at 90 Bridge St., Suite 30, on the third floor of the Dana Warp Mill.
There will be lots fabric for quilting, fashion, upholstery, as well as sewing tools, notions, patterns, sewing books, and many tuned-up used sewing machines.
All proceeds will benefit the nonprofit sewing school, which offers 12-week classes on industrial stitching techniques and helps place participants with local manufacturers.

PORTLAND
Children’s Odyssey hosts fall festival
The Children’s Odyssey is hosting a community fall festival from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday at the center at 19 Libby St.
This free event will include lots of fall family fun and opportunities to support Children’s Odyssey – a nonprofit preschool and childcare center providing special education early intervention services in Portland. Join them for magic shows, games, face painting, balloon animals, a raffle, child crafts, story walk, food, music and fun. There also will be food and bake sale items.

SOUTH PORTLAND
Land trust seeks volunteers for work on trail
The South Portland Land Trust (SPLT) is calling the community to action for an urgently needed clean-up on the city’s South Branch Trail. The area is currently inundated with litter and the SPLT is looking for volunteers to help pick it up.
The clean-up will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday and volunteers are asked to meet in the parking lot behind CSL Plasma on Gorham Road. Those who are interested in volunteering can find more information on the SPLT website at southportlandlandtrust.org/upcoming-events.

NORTH YARMOUTH
Make cider with the historical society
North Yarmouth Historical’s Soup and Cider Day will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Skyline Farm at 95 The Lane.
After a two year hiatus, the North Yarmouth Historical Society invites the public to come pitch apples into the hopper of the antique cider press, help turn the crank, and make cider. This potluck lunch often features homemade soup, chowder, cornbread, rolls, and dessert. Library updates weekly offerings
McArthur Library will host the following events this week at 270 Main St.:
• Need some technology help navigating with email, websites, apps or how to use your device? Bring in your own laptop, tablet or phone for technology assistance from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday and again on Oct. 25.
• A Pokemon card exchange will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Kids are invited to join us to trade cards and play the Pokemon trading card game. This will be a recurring event with no registration required.

Harvestfest has something for everyone
The 37th year Harvestfest/Kidsfest event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Short Sands Beach.
The event will feature more than 125 crafters, vendors, food offers, live entertainment, raffles, nonprofits in the Esplanade area across from York Beach Fire Department, and of course, a variety of children’s activities.
Enjoy live entertainment under the big tent throughout the day with musicians Don Campbell Band & Friends and for the kids, Dan Blakeslee, aka Dr. Gasp, providing folk music and Halloween-themed storytelling.
Harvestfest/Kidsfest offer free parking and free admission. All event grounds are smoke/vape free and pet free.

HIRAM
Turkey roast and exhibit to follow
The 4th annual Trash Can Turkey Roast will be held at noon Saturday at 14 Historical Ridge, across the parking lot from the Great Ossipee Museum at 20 Historical Ridge.
The event includes turkey, barbecue pork, ribs, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, cornbread, pie and more. Turkeys will be roasted outdoors (under tents if rain); food will be served indoors at the Hiram Community Center. Costs is $12 for adults and $5 for children 11 and younger.
Country singer David Foley will be the afternoon’s entertainment. Raffle tickets for a chance to win four live lobsters and more will be sold for $5 each or $10 for three. There will be a craft table for kids to make leaf animals. Following the roast, the Ossipee Museum – in conjunction with the Brownfield Historical Society – will have an exhibit for the 95th anniversary of the 1947 wildfires. In the exhibit are photos of the Hiram and Brownfield fires and stories of the homes destroyed and saved. The Hiram Fire Department will bring the 1937 Dodge fire truck that was used to battle the blaze.
