Giving back

The Cumberland & Falmouth Farmers Market presented the Falmouth Food Pantry with a check for $1,534.30 earlier this month. Of the total, $767.15 was collected in donations during the Wednesday market in July and the market matched that amount.

“Throughout the month of July, during our Wednesday market, our generous patrons and vendors collected canned goods and funds to aid the Falmouth Food Pantry,” said Kathy Shaw, president of the Cumberland Farmers Market Association and a market vendor. “As a result, the Farmers Market in Falmouth is pleased and delighted to contribute $767.15 as a match for all funds donated.”

Norway Savings Bank has donated $25,000 to the Falmouth Land Trust to help restore and refurbish the barn at Hurricane Valley Farm in Falmouth. The 62-acre farm, once slated to become a 17-home subdivision, is leased to Cultivating Community, which provides farming education and community agriculture opportunities to new American farmers.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust employees recently presented nearly $12,000 in donations from their employee-driven charitable giving program to six nonprofit organizations in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, including Brunswick-based People Plus. The donation will benefit the Brunswick Area Teen Center, which provides a safe and central place for youth to meet.

Fay Saxby has joined Portland-based Tru Brit Realty Group of Saxby, Meek & Coward at Keller Williams Realty as a sales agent.

Stephen B. Segal has returned after a year’s absence to Verrill’s Portland office as counsel in its Litigation & Trial Group.

Ann O’Hagan is the new director of development at Victoria Mansion in Portland. She has spent her career in support of not-for-profit hospitals and health systems, and in recent years successfully launched an entrepreneurial consulting practice serving the health care industry.

Dorn

Melanie N. Dorn is a newly hired associate in Perkins Thompson’s Real Estate and Government Services practice groups. Dorn helps clients in real estate transactions and in zoning, land use and environmental permitting matters.

Anthony Eames of South Freeport has been appointed to the Natural Resources Council of Maine Board of Directors. He serves as managing director of responsible investment strategy for Calvert Research and Management, an affiliate of Morgan Stanley Investment Management.
