Maine State Ballet’s production of the three-act “Coppélia” will introduce you to the character of inventor and toy maker Dr. Coppelius. Find out what happens when a life-size dancing doll captures the heart of a real-life young man and what his current flame, Swanhilda, does to stop something ominous from happening.

Danza Latina dance studio invites you to an evening of instruction followed by a full-on Latin dance party in Portland. Stroudwater Distillery plays host and will be serving up cocktails and food all night long. The hour-long lesson starts at 7 p.m. and will be led by instructor Anna Golenudkhina. Or you can just come to the party and show off your best salsa, bachata, merengue and kizomba.

‘Sea Bound’

Hop on the ferry and make your way to Peaks Island this weekend to see an oceanside production of “Sea Bound,” a new musical by Mainer Liz Rollins that delves into themes of love and responsibility. The two-act production’s characters are mythical selkies who can shed their seal skins to become human. “Sea Bound” takes places 75 years from now but draws from ancient Scottish folklore and confronts modern-day issues, particularly environmental ones. The Peaks Island Players will take you on a magical journey, and you may even catch a glimpse of an actual seal in Casco Bay.

North Woods Throwdown Charity Softball Game

Here’s a chance to see a fun softball game on Portland’s favorite baseball diamond, Hadlock Field. The Maine Game Wardens will face the New Hampshire Conservation Officers, and you may recognize some of the players from Animal Planet’s “North Woods Law.” Best of all, all proceeds will benefit Maine and New Hampshire Operation Game Thief and International Wildlife Crime Stoppers.
