Ceremony celebrates newly renovated public safety building
After months of renovations, the updated and improved Windham Public Safety Building was introduced to the public at a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 13. Among the speakers were Windham Town Manager Barry Tibbetts and Town Council Chairperson Jarrod Maxfield. Jonathan Smith from Great Falls Construction, the company that completed the project, also said a few words. They, along with the other people who spoke at the ceremony, agreed that there was a wonderful spirit of cooperation between the Great Falls staff and Windham’s public safety personnel during the entire project. Working together, they have created a facility that will better serve the residents of Windham for years to come.
Shopping for seniors
Windham senior citizens age 50 and older are invited to go shopping with the Parks and Recreation department on Thursday mornings. This free program is offered to individuals who can’t drive or get to a store on their own. Call Parks and Rec at 892-1905 on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday to reserve a spot. The route and times vary slightly each week.
Sign language class
Windham Public Library is offering a sign language class for residents interested in learning this fascinating form of communication. Beginning Monday, July 25, from 6-7 p.m., American Sign Language with Tristan Peterson will take place on the fourth Monday of each month. The course will cover all the basics, including numbers and fingerspelling to start. Then some common words and phrases will be introduced. Gradually, participants will move into higher-level concepts at a pace that is comfortable for the group. Cancer support group
The next meeting of the Windham Cancer Support Group is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Windham Public Library. The group is open to anyone who has cancer, their caregivers and survivors of the disease. Use the library’s side door.
