Natural Resources Council of Maine Sustainable Maine Director Sarah Nichols and former staffer Chrissy Adamowicz were recognized by ecomaine for their role in passing a first-in-the-nation law to shift costs for disposing wasteful packaging from Maine taxpayers onto big corporations.
The Greater Portland Council of Governments has awarded Guy Mpoyi the Community Leadership Award for his work teaching new Mainers how to use southern Maine’s public transportation network. Mpoyi, an immigrant from the Democratic Republic of Congo, spearheaded the Bus Ambassadors program.
Forbes recently named Evergreen Credit Union to their Best-In-State Credit Unions 2022 for Maine. Based on a 1-100 scale, scores ranged from 74.2-93.6, and just 3.4% of credit unions across the country made the cut for the best-in-state rankings.
Giving back
Solo Cucina Market in South Portland partnered with Hope Acts, a nonprofit that provides housing, English classes and other resources to asylum-seekers, to host an open house with $15,000 worth of grocery gift cards distributed to 94 shoppers representing 336 family members and 12 countries.
Hires, promotions, appointments
Lindsay MacDonald has joined Spectrum Generations as community engagement director. Formerly, MacDonald served as executive director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick for 11 years. Spectrum Generations is an Area Agency on Aging and Disability Resource Center.
Bank of America has named Brian King president of Bank of America Maine. King succeeds Bill Williamson, who held the position for 10 years and will retire next year after more than 40 years with the company.
Mike Sullivan has accepted the position of development director for the Diocese of Portland. Sullivan is currently the development officer for Thomas College in Waterville and succeeds David DiNapoli, who has accepted a position in the Archdiocese of Denver, Colorado.
