Richard Arnold “Dick” Sanborn
RAYMOND – Richard Arnold “Dick” Sanborn, 87, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2022 at a Portland hospital. He was born in Portland on Feb. 15, 1935, the son of Lorenzo and Gladys (Whittaker) Sanborn.
Dick was a hard worker and went to work early in life to help support his family. He worked at J.J. Nissen Baking Company for many years; and, eventually started his own business digging graves, selling firewood, and farming to be closer to home with his eight children. Dick married Cleo Ramona Shaw on April 4, 1975, and together they raised a family and shared 46 years. For Dick and Cleo’s selfless service to the Raymond community, they were winners of the 2020 Spirit of America Award. In his limited spare time Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, and ice fishing. He will be remembered as a selfless, hardworking farmer and family man.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, Cleo, Dick was predeceased by his sons, George, Joel, Mark, and Jeffrey, and his daughter, Sheilah Shanahan.
He is survived by his sons, Richard Sanborn and his wife Cathy, Jonathan Sanborn, Matthew Sanborn, Lawrence Ryder and his wife Tammy; daughters, Beth Miller and her husband Rick, Eryn Sjulander and her husband David, and Sherry Brown and her husband Curt; 31 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 434 River Road, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial at North Raymond Cemetery will be private for family.
