Nomination papers available for select board
Nomination papers for two three-year terms on the Select Board will become available Monday, March 7, in the office of Town Clerk John Myers, Buxton Town Hall, 185 Portland Road.
The incumbents are Chairperson Thomas Peters and board member Mark Blier. Both were elected in 2019 in a six-way race for the two seats.
A minimum of 25 signatures of Buxton residents are required to run. Papers are due in Myers’ office by 4:30 p.m. April 15.

Superintendent search
The SAD 6 Search Committee, assigned to find a replacement for Superintendent Paul Penna, will meet at 6 p.m. Friday, March 4, in the Central Office Conference Room at 94 Main St.
School Board Director Nathan Carlow, chairperson of the committee, has said Penna’s successor will likely be named in April. Penna is retiring at end of the school year.

School hosting Snowfest
SAD 6 is hosting its community outreach Snowfest 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Bonny Eagle Middle School, 92 Sokokis Trail in Buxton.
Bring ice skates or snowshoes to participate in those activities. Games, crafts and hot chocolate will be available during the family-friendly event, which is snow dependent. Check the status on the district’s Facebook page or website.
60 years ago
The Westbrook American reported March 7, 1962, that Brooks Eastman, president of the newly formed Bonny Eagle High School Parent-Teacher Club, conducted a dinner meeting in observance of school lunch week. Members were served a typical 35-cent school lunch.
