Carol Ann (Kuzmicki) Gallant

SCARBOROUGH – Carol Ann (Kuzmicki) Gallant, 82, chocolate chip cookie extraordinaire, of Scarborough, passed away at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on Feb. 25, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Carol was born in Portland on Dec. 22, 1939, the oldest of four children of Joseph and Lillian Kuzmicki. She was raised in Redbank and attended South Portland schools.

Carol met her husband, Norman, in October of 1962 and they were married June 22, 1963. Carol and Norman were married for 58 years and had four wonderful children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was a devoted homemaker. Her favorite pastimes were cooking and baking for family and friends. Family was most important to Carol, and she had a gift for bringing everyone together surrounded by food and love. You never left her house with an empty stomach.

Later in life, she enjoyed volunteering at St. Anne’s Church in Gorham. Carol, and several of her dearest friends, cooked and served senior meals for over 20 years.

She was a proud 20-year breast cancer survivor and she fought it with grace and strength. Throughout her battle, Carol formed many special relationships with staff at New England Cancer Specialists, where she was known for bringing them cookies to show her gratitude.

Carol was predeceased by her parents; and brothers Ronald and James Kuzmicki.

She is survived by husband, Norman; her son, Gary Gallant, daughters Karen Burrows and husband Paul, Tracey Gallant, Amy Hayden and husband Dan. She also leaves nine grandchildren, Brandy, Dana, Cody (Olivia), Sam (Sakura), Tyler, Nathaniel, Julia, Carly, and Nicholas, whom she was so proud of. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Pralicz and husband Michael. Carol just recently became a great-grandmother to Colette Lily Burrows. Her face lit up when she held her great-grandchild for the first time.

Carol also leaves behind many friends from St. Ann’s Church in Gorham, New England Cancer Specialists and Hillcrest Retirement Community. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to her home hospice nurse, Jay, aka “Jaybird”.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 at Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 4 at 10 a.m., at Hobbs Funeral Home with a reception following. Burial will be at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carol’s memory may be made to Maine Cancer Foundation.
