Bike swap coming to town
If one swap is good, two swaps are even better. The Great Maine Bike Swap will take place in not one but two locations this year.
“We are thrilled to introduce two new bike swaps in two new locations” in Gorham and Lewiston, said Emily Lozeau, event manager of the sponsor, Bicycle Coalition of Maine. “And we are so pleased to bring back our partnership with the University of Southern Maine.”

The first swap will be held on the USM campus in Lewiston April 24 and the second on the USM campus in Gorham June 12.
The Bike Swap was traditionally held on the USM Portland campus, but ongoing renovations to the Sullivan Gym have necessitated a move elsewhere, according to a BCM press release. After a pandemic pause in 2020, the event temporarily moved to Kennedy Park in 2021.
“We hope the location changes will offer even more people a chance to buy and sell used bikes,” Lozeau said. “A lot of folks in Lewiston and Gorham commute to school and work by bike, and it’s been hard for them to find affordable bikes during the continuing bike boom and shortage.”
The Gorham event will also ensure people in the Greater Portland area will have a nearby location to buy road and mountain bicycles as well as gravel bikes, kids’ bikes, hybrids and tandems.
Per the COVID policies of both USM and BCM, all attendees age 12 and over must show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test administered within the previous 48 hours. All attendees will be required to wear a mask inside USM buildings.

Senior center open daily
The Lakes Region Senior Center is now open 9 a.m. every day in the Little Falls Activity Center, 40 Acorn St.
Gorham and Windham residents are invited to stop by and see what the center is all about. Visitors will find activities, bingo, card games, classes, fitness and luncheons, along with a sense of community and social interaction. More information can be found by calling David or Blanche at 892-5604.
