Jeffrey Brooks Weiner
YORK – Jeffrey Brooks Weiner, 67, of York, Maine died Feb. 11, 2022, at home after a courageous journey dealing with the life changing hardships of a stroke and brain surgery at the age of 39.Brooks was born in Lawrence, Mass., the son of the late Melvin L. Weiner and Nancy Brooks Weiner. He was raised in Andover, Mass., and spent summers in Ogunquit. He graduated from Tabor Academy and attended Boston University and the University of Vermont. Brooks was a gifted athlete starring in both hockey and lacrosse. After college he, along with his brother Steve, played for the Sun Valley Suns, a semi-professional hockey team in Sun Valley, Idaho. His other true love and career was spent as a commercial tuna fisherman out of Perkins Cove in Ogunquit. His skills as a “harpooner” made him one of Maine’s great fishermen. He was involved in the oversight of the building of his family boats and was extremely talented and way ahead of his time.Brooks marched to his own tune, unapologetically. He liked to have fun, and he did. He made lots of friends along the way. He had a bigger than life personality. His positivity and determination were infectious, and he left his impact on all those who knew him. Family was Brooks’ priority, especially his daughters, who were his world. He would never miss a sports event, birthday, or graduation. He was his girl’s biggest cheerleader. In 2016, Brooks became a proud grandfather and took the role very seriously. Not only was he dedicated to his family, but he became the communal father to many of his daughter’s friends. He made sure everyone was taken care of and looked after.Brooks leaves two daughters, Corey Brooks Weiner of Berwick, and Kirsten Lee Rissman and her husband Andrew of York; a brother Stephen B. Weiner and his wife Kathryn of Ogunquit, and his sister Abigail W. Taylor of Rye Beach, N.H. and Ogunquit; his four nieces and nephews and his two grandchildren, Amelia and Charles Rissman, and many other family members. Services will be private, but a Celebration of life will be held in the spring.Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, York, Maine is directing arrangements.
