Freeport Community Services is hosting its annual Freeze Out fundraiser to help Freeport and Pownal families with food and fuel this winter.

This year’s Freeze Out is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Freeport Community Services, 53 Depot St. Volunteers will collect  donations of food and cash; those interested in donating can drive up and drop off. In Pownal, donations can be dropped off at Short Stop, 413 Hallowell Road.

The fundraiser helps offset home heating costs between the time cold weather hits and government-funded heating assistance comes in. All funds raised go to the Carol Kaplan fuel fund, which provides emergency heating assistance. Last year the event raised more than $17,000, according to Freeport Community Services, and because more people are working and studying from home due to the pandemic, the need is greater than ever.

Donations can also be made online through Freeport Community Service’s GoFundMe account at gofundme.com/f/freeze-out-2022.
