Philip Erwin Hodsdon

PORTLAND – Philip Erwin Hodsdon, of Portland, formerly of Hermon, Maine, passed away on Feb. 8, 2022. He was born Sept. 24, 1929 in Carmel, Maine, the son of Guy and Edwina (Philbrick) Hodsdon, brother to Helene, Howard and Lauris.

Phil attended school in Carmel, then was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War. He was married to his wife of 62 years, Marilyn Fournier, who predeceased him. Together they raised four children. Phil worked at the B&A Railroad as a machinist and retired after 28 years. He had a love for cars his whole life. There was never a car he could not fix and he loved working on them especially with his sons.

He also enjoyed spending his free time following Boston sports, UConn Women’s basketball, reading Westerns, tinkering and doing for others. He took great pride in his Yankee ingenuity, his hometown of Hermon and most of all his devoted family. One of his life’s highlights was taking the Veteran’s Honor Flight with his daughter to Washington DC. It was a privilege and to honor to serve his country.

He was predeceased by his son-in-law William E Hunt. He is survived by his children, Randolph and his wife Denise, Bruce and his wife Susan, Cheryl Hunt, Barry and fiancee Jill Shea; loving “Grampy” to grandchildren, Jason, Heather, Brandon, Jessica, Hunter, Carson, Cassidy and Meredith; and great-grandchildren Wesley, June and Walker.
