Grace Ramsdell completed a three-point play with 2:08 remaining to break a tie, and top-seeded Wells survived an upset bid, defeating ninth-seeded Maranacook 37-30 in a Class B South girls’ basketball quarterfinal Saturday at the Portland Expo.

Wells (18-1) scored the final nine points after the Black Bears led 30-28 with five minutes left.

Ramsdell, a 1,000-point career scorer, finished with eight to go with seven rebounds as Maranacook (9-10) clogged the middle.

After Ramsdell’s three-point play, Grace Boucher hit both ends of a 1-and-1 with 50 seconds left, then two more free throws with 21 seconds to play.

Maranacook trailed by four points at the half and one point through three quarters behind the inside work of Allie LaBelle and the outside play of Eliza Pattershall. They each finished with nine points.

Boucher had 10 to lead Wells, which hit 3 of 23 3-pointers.

“That’s the tournament for you,” said Wells Coach Don Abbott. “The game was played more at their pace then we probably wanted, but the girls were resilient and found enough plays to win.”

“I told the girls after, ‘Don’t listen to the narrative that we had a difficult time.’ We’ve lived by the same mantra all year: Win any way you can.”

The Warriors will meet York (11-5) at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals at the Expo.

OCEANSIDE 60: MEDOMAK VALLEY 28: Freshman standout Bailey Breen poured in 29 points as the second-seeded Mariners (17-0) rolled past the seventh-seeded Panthers (13-7) in a Class B South quarterfinal at the Portland Expo.

Oceanside opened with an 11-0 run, sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers from Emily Sykes. The Mariners led 15-4 after one quarter and 26-10 at halftime.

The 6-foot-3 Breen then scored 14 of her team’s 21 points in the third quarter as the lead grew to 47-24.

Breen also grabbed 11 rebounds. Abby Waterman had eight points and 15 rebounds.

Alyssa Creamer led Medomak with 10 points.

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 44, LINCOLN ACADEMY 42: Jaydn Pingree sank a go-ahead free throw with 17.5 seconds remaining, and the third-seeded Falcons (14-5) edged the No. 5 Eagles (10-7) in a Class B South quarterfinal at the Portland Expo.

There were three ties and two lead changes in a tense fourth quarter after Lincoln fought back from an eight-point deficit early in the third.

Olivia Mastine led the Phoenix with 16 points, including 10 of 12 free throws. Pingree finished with 11 points.

Grace Houghton had 13 points and 15 rebounds for Lincoln.

VALLEY 52, NORTH HAVEN 32: The top-seeded Cavaliers (14-1) ended the first half with a 24-0 run to pull away from the eighth-seeded Hawks (4-7) in a Class D South quarterfinal at the Augusta Civic Center.

Brielle Hill scored 12 of her 24 points in the second quarter, all on fast-break layups, to help Valley advance to a semifinal on Thursday against fourth-seeded Forest Hills.

Madeline Hill added 13 points.

Mercedes Sparhawk paced North Haven with 14 points.

FOREST HILLS 35, GREENVILLE 25: Fourth-seeded Forest Hills (12-7) opened the second half with a 12-0 surge, erasing a three-point halftime deficit on its way to a win over the No. 5 Lakers (4-13) in a Class D South quarterfinal.

Grace Allen scored six of her 11 points during the decisive run. Kylie Yu led the Tigers with 13 points, Allie Dunning added 10, and Peyton Chiasson grabbed 11 rebounds.

Lila Kronholm scored 10 points for Greenville.

PRESQUE ISLE 45, MT. VIEW 30: Faith Sjoberg set a Class B North tournament record with eight 3-pointers and finished with 30 points as the fourth-seeded Wildcats (14-6) beat the fifth-seeded Vikings (8-12) in a Class B North quarterfinal at Bangor’s Cross Insurance Center.

Mt. View led 9-2 after one quarter and 13-2 early in the second, but Sjoberg fueled a 20-2 surge with five 3-pointers as the Wildcats pulled ahead 22-15 by halftime.

Hannah Coolen scored 15 points and Ari Bradeen added eight for Mt. View.

OLD TOWN 68, CARIBOU 39: Sydney Loring and Madelyn Emerson combined for 18 points in the first quarter, helping the top-seeded Coyotes (19-1) take control early in a Class B North quarterfinal win over the eighth-seeded Vikings (10-10).

Loring got 10 of her 16 points in the opening eight minutes as Old Town raced to a 25-8 lead.

Emerson finished with 19 points and Saige Evans added 10 as the Coyotes advanced to a semifinal on Wednesday against No. 4 Presque Isle.

Caribou got 11 points from Selena Savage, 10 from Abby Leahy and nine from Ashlyn Bouchard.

MACHIAS 47, EAST GRAND 36: Jaydin Anderson scored 18 points and the third-seeded Bulldogs (14-4) opened with a 13-0 run against the sixth-seeded Vikings (11-8) in a Class D North quarterfinal at Bangor.

Kristin Grant and Skyler Tinker each added 11 points.

Isabelle Cowger led East Grand with 12 points.

WISDOM 63, KATAHDIN 34: Lilly Roy scored 22 of her 30 points in the first half to start second-seeded Wisdom on its way to a Class D North quarterfinal win over No. 7 Katahdin (9-10) in Bangor.

Abbie Lerman added 14 points – all in the second half – as Wisdom (16-1) advanced to face Machias in the semifinals.

Makayla Hartsgrove led Katahdin with 13 points.
