NEW HIRES
Engineering and surveying firm Haley Ward Inc. has hired three employees in its Saco office:
Ron Willey has joined the firm as a senior project manager and project engineer. Willey brings over 25 years of mechanical engineering experience in the healthcare, cleanroom, natatorium, criminal justice and government sectors.
Justyna Cybowicz has been hired as a mechanical designer. Cybowicz brings experience designing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, and has extensive experience with Revit and AutoCAD.
Michael McCormick has joined the firm as an environmental technician. McCormick’s professional experiences include geologic mapping, lithogeochemical sampling and analysis, petrography, geochronology and geophysical surveys.
Sara Groves has joined the Maine Federation of Humane Societies as an administrative and program manager. Groves, of Portland, brings several years of nonprofit experience and work with animal organizations.
PROMOTIONS
Jess Townsend has been promoted to executive director of Midcoast Humane in Brunswick. Townsend is an animal welfare professional with 15 years experience. She had previously served as interim executive director since October.
Portland law firm Drummond Woodsum has announced four new shareholders and senior consultants.
Isabel Ekman was named a shareholder. Ekman primarily represents school districts on issues including special education and disability law, student rights, student discipline and Title IX issues. She also advises healthcare providers on HIPAA compliance.
Kellie Fisher represents secured and unsecured creditors, equity holders, debtors, liquidating and litigation trustees, and more. Fisher also represents stakeholders in Chapter 7, 11, 12 and 13 bankruptcy cases, and other restructuring transactions.
Penelope Wheeler-Abbott was named a senior consultant. She works with schools and municipalities as a non-lawyer consultant and advocate providing guidance on education and human resources matters.
Mark Gallagher was also named a senior consultant. Gallagher is a non-lawyer who advises corporations, nonprofits, advocacy organizations and electoral campaigns on a range of energy, regulated substances and health care matters. He has nearly 28 years of experience in the legislative and electoral process.
The Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute has promoted Alison Bromski to associate director of community and communications. Bromski has worked with the institute since 2016 as a consultant, community engagement specialist, and community and communications manager.
BOARD APPOINTMENTS
Renee Lewis has joined the board of directors of the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute. Lewis, of Hollis, is principal and managing partner at Bloomfield Capital in Portland, which manages over $500 million in investments.
Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences has appointed four new members to its board of trustees:
Mark Abbott most recently served as president and director of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and is now president emeritus.
Peter Handy is president and chief executive of Bristol Seafood in Portland. In addition, he serves on the boards of Maine Public Radio and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine.
Randall Jeffery had a 20-year career in radio station mergers and acquisitions. He is passionate about preserving our oceans and marine life and is a U.S. Coast Guard 100-ton master captain.
Dimitri Michaud has nearly two decades of experience in financial and business strategy with leadership roles in both the public and private sectors. He is currently the chief operating officer at Gorham Savings Bank.
The Portland Conservatory of Music has announced the addition of two new board members:
Nancy Merwin is vice president and associate general counsel for Advance, a privately held media, communications, entertainment and technology company. Merwin specializes in employment law and compliance and serves as a company ethics officer.
Chris Kuchuris recently retired from a 30-year career as philosophy professor at the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas. Kuchuris was active with boards in Las Vegas and Traverse City, Michigan, and has worked with community music organizations such as Blues In The Schools in Las Vegas.
Midcoast Humane has appointed five new board members: Beth Chiquoine, of Harpswell, is a retired academic administrator. Jennifer Jones, of Falmouth, is a licensed clinical social worker. Kathy Hirst, of Harpswell, is a biostatistician and retired from George Washington University. Mason Palmatier, of Brunswick, is owner of Little Dog Coffee Shop. Julie Beane, of Brunswick, works at Maine Development Foundation.
