Cheryl Golek of Harpswell has announced she’s running to represent District 99 in the Maine House of Representatives.
Golek will face financial advisor Sheila Menair in the Democratic primary on June 14 before November’s general election. The winner will succeed Democrat Rep. Jay McCreight, who cannot run in 2022 due to term-limit rules.
House District 99, formerly District 51, includes Harpswell, West Bath and part of Brunswick.
In 1998, Golek co-founded The Vicarage By The Sea, a long-term care facility for those suffering from dementia.
Her platform covers a range of issues, from raising wages to securing Indigenous and disability rights to confronting food insecurity.
