AMHERST, Mass. — Joe Fagnano completed 16 of 27 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns in his first game since suffering an ankle injury in the second game of the season, and the University of Maine beat Football Bowl Division opponent UMass 35-10 on Saturday.
Maine improves to 5-5, while UMass falls to 1-9.
The Minutemen took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, but Maine forged ahead in the second quarter on an 18-yard touchdown run by Freddie Brock and an 8-yard TD pass from Fagnano to Devin Young.
Fagnano added a 14-yard scoring pass to Shawn Bowman in the third quarter, and Elija Barnwell rushed for a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Barnwell rushed 16 times for 98 yards, while Brock added 77 yards rushing on 13 carries.
COLBY 21, BOWDOIN 10: The Mules (4-5) scored 21 straight points and beat the Polar Bears (1-8) in Waterville to win the Colby-Bates-Bowdoin title. The Mules beat Bates, 10-2, on Oct. 30 and went 2-0 in the series.
Bowdoin took the lead on a 29-yard field goal by Jothan Casey late in the second quarter. The Polar Bears made it 10-0 on a 2-yard run by Andre Eden early in the third quarter.
Colby got a 1-yard TD run by Donovan Ganges at the end of the third quarter. Matt Hersch scored on a 2-yard run to give the Mules the lead and added a 19-yard TD run, both in the fourth quarter.
Hersch completed 14 of 22 passes for 123 yards, and also rushed nine times for 41 yards. Eden rushed 22 times for 100 yards for Bowdoin.
BATES 27, HAMILTON 21: Christian Olivieri caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Colton Bosselait with four seconds left and the Bobcats (3-6) rallied to beat the Continentals (2-7) in Lewiston.
Bates took over at its own 38 with 39 seconds remaining and the game tied at 21. Bosselait completed a 10-yard pass to Olivieri and ran 13 yards for another first down at the Hamilton 48, setting up the winning score.
Bates tied the game when Alexander Suny caught a 9-yard TD pass from Bosselait with 6:45 left in the third quarter.
Bosselait completed 23 of 36 passes for 372 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. Caleb Bolden had 88 yards rushing, while Sean Bryant caught seven passes for 127 yards and a touchdown.
WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 35, HUSSON 10: The Golden Bears (7-3, 5-1 Commonwealth Coast) scored 28 points in the second half to beat the Eagles (7-3, 4-2) in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Ian Britt rushed 16 times for 75 yards and two touchdowns for Western New England.
Nic Visser completed 13 of 31 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown for Husson. Garrett Poussard had 26 rushes for 106 yards and a score.
U. OF NEW ENGLAND 55, CURRY 43: Jarrett Henault threw for 286 yards and five touchdowns, and rushed for 83 yards and one touchdown to lift the Nor’easters (3-5, 1-4 Commonwealth Coast) past the Colonels (3-5, 1-4) at Milton, Massachusetts.
Brett Miller had four receptions for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Jakob Rivers, Jack Mahoney and Shane LaPorte each added a touchdown reception. Mahoney also ran for 88 yards on 11 attempts with a rushing touchdown.
Charlie Stanton went 42 of 72 for 550 yards with one touchdown and an interception for Curry.
