I would like to say hats off – or should that be umbrellas up – for the excellent Maine Voices column, written by Dennis Camire in the May 23 Maine Sunday Telegram. His sentiments reflected my very own in that no matter which of the local television stations you rely upon for your weather…they all make rain sound like such a horrible thing.
He was correct in saying that they all seem brainwashed as to how they are to tell us the forecast and if rain is in that forecast it is going to be a bad day. We have seen more than our share of dry conditions as of late and rain is a necessity in a state with such an abundance of plant life. I personally love to be outside when it is raining. Walking through the woods after a good downpour to me is better than a day at the beach any time.
I would suggest to any of our local prognosticators that instead of using phrases like “a threat of rain” or “it will be a gloomy day filled with showers” they realize where we would be without any rain.
Have you ever noticed that no matter how much you water your lawn and gardens from an outdoor faucet it never looks as good as a thorough drenching of Mother Nature’s own elixir. Without rain we would soon find out just how beautiful a gift it is when the heavens “cry.”
