High school graduation exercises are marching ever closer, with Westbrook planning to hand out diplomas inside while Gorham and Bonny Eagle high schools have opted for outside commencement ceremonies.
Westbrook High School seniors will walk across the stage at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Cross Insurance Arena, 1 Civic Center Square, Portland, with 146 graduates.
Bonny Eagle High School, 700 Saco Road, Standish, will conduct its graduation exercises at 5 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Bonny Eagle Stadium Field. The rain date is 2 p.m. Saturday. The class of 2021 will include approximately 270 graduates.
Gorham High School, 41 Morrill Ave., will hold commencement from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 13, on the school’s football field. Gorham will have 204 grads.
“Given COVID-19, I think many people will appreciate being outdoors. We also won’t have to travel to Portland, although I will miss the beauty of Merrill Auditorium,” Gorham High School Principal Brian Jandreau said. “Unfortunately, if it rains, we don’t have a great option for moving indoors, so we will look at a rain date of either the day before, which I know isn’t the typical, or a day during the week.”
Parking, Jandreau said, will also be an issue in Gorham.
“We are looking to have people park at off-site locations and be shuttled to GHS,” he said.
