North Yarmouth’s annual Town Meeting, initially slated for April 24, has been postponed until June 19 so officials can rework a warrant about Sharp’s Field and give more time for voters to review the town budget.
Select Board Chairperson Steven Berry said the date change was made to “to give folks more time with the budget and to address some concerns with the language of Article 2, regarding the future of Sharp’s Field, an athletic field neighboring the town office building.”
The article gives a “conservation easement or similar instrument to an entity” in order to protect Sharp’s Field and make sure it stays open space, but there was concern the wording was “too vague,” Berry said.
“We will not be able to make amendments to the warrant until the actual day of the meeting,” Berry said. “The additional time will give space for preparing for a potentially confusing amendment from the floor.”
Other measures to be voted on at the meeting include creating a floodplain management ordinance, purchasing town equipment and approving the town’s municipal administration budget of $513,042, which is 3.9% higher than this year’s. The town budget overall is $3.76 million, up 12.8% from fiscal year 2021.
A leash law proposal was removed from the warrant but will will be discussed at a public forum May 5.
The Town Meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at Wescustogo Hall & Community Center.
