NORTH BERWICK — Madison Romano homered in the eighth inning Wednesday as Sanford edged Noble 10-9 in a mutual softball opener after blowing a six-run lead.
Sanford led 8-2 in the fourth inning, but Noble came back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and three in the fifth to tie the game at 9.
Winning pitcher Madison Sheppard went 3 for 3 for Sanford, and Romano and Ruby Lachance each had two hits and two RBI.
Lexi Volinsky went 3 for 3 with three RBI for Noble. Ellie Gray had two hits and two RBI, and Tianna Valle also drove in two runs.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 15, FREEPORT 1: Heather Neville went 3 for 4 with a three-run homer, and Morgan Curtis was 3 for 3 with a double as the Patriots (1-0) cruised past the Falcons (0-2) in Freeport.
Madison Pelletier pitched a two-hitter.

FREEPORT 11, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: The Falcons picked up a season-opening win in a rain-soaked game in Freeport.
Anthony Panciocco went 2 for 3, including a walk-off home run in the sixth inning that gave Freeport the mercy-rule victory.
Julian Gideon had two hits and two RBI. Blaine Cockburn pitched four innings of no-hit ball with 11 strikeouts and two walks.
Gray-New Gloucester scored an unearned run in the second inning.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
YORK 12, WAYNFLETE 10: Rose Pavuk scored six goals to lead the Wildcats (2-0) over the Flyers (1-1) in Portland.
Clara Pavuk added two goals and four assists.
Jess Connors had three goals for Waynflete.
BOYS’ LACROSSE
CAPE ELIZABETH 17, GREELY 2: Nick Boudreau had four goals and an assist to help the Capers (2-0) down the Rangers (0-2) at Cumberland.
Archie McEvoy added three goals and an assist.
Oscar Frankowitz and Keegan Lathrop each scored twice, and Tiernan Lathrop recorded a goal and three assists.
THORNTON ACADEMY 12, SOUTH PORTLAND 6: Ronan Flynn and Noah Veroneau each scored three goals as the Trojans beat the Red Riots at Saco.
Ethan LeBlanc and Nick DeLeo scored two goals apiece.
Cullen Adams led South Portland with two goals and an assist.
