The turnover this month at the top of some of southern Maine’s leading school districts continued as Cape Elizabeth announced it has hired a new superintendent of schools.
Christopher Record, who is assistant superintendent of schools in Gorham, will become Cape Elizabeth’s next superintendent effective July 1.
Record’s appointment was announced in a statement Thursday by the Cape Elizabeth School Department. The town’s School Board hired Record, who will succeed Donna Wolfram.
“This hire is the culmination of a national search that began back in early February,” the statement said. “The interview committee, consisting of parents, teachers, administrators, and Board members, was unanimous in its enthusiastic recommendation of Dr. Record. The Board is confident that Dr. Record will ensure Cape Elizabeth Schools continue in the tradition of high-performing excellence while expanding educational experiences for all students.”
Record is the third superintendent to be hired by a southern Maine school district in April.
In South Portland, Timothy M. Matheney, a longtime educator, will take over July 1 for outgoing Superintendent Ken Kunin. Earlier this month, Falmouth Superintendent Geoff Bruno announced he would be leaving Falmouth to become superintendent of schools in Scarborough effective July 1.
Record was named Maine’s Assistant Superintendent of the Year in 2019. He started his educational career in alternative and special education in North Carolina and Massachusetts, before moving to Maine, where he taught social studies at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. After making the shift into administration as assistant principal at Oxford Hills, Record became principal of Gorham High School, where he served for eight years.
