Land trust offering two walks
Great Works Regional Land Trust is offering two vernal pool identification walks this week at Tatnic Woods.
The first will be a “Stories in the Woods” outing, from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday and designed for ages 2 to 5 and their families. This will include a book read-aloud by Wells Public Library connecting to the theme of vernal pools, followed by a stroll to the vernal pools for some waterside observations.
The second outing is from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday with naturalist Sue Bickford, who will guide participants in an investigation of the variety of species occupying the network of vernal pools.
Strict COVID precautions and masks are required. Outings are limited to 15 people and guardians must be present with children. Registration is required by going to info@gwrlt.org or for more details, call 207-646-3604.

Children’s drawing class at library
Friends of the Wells Public Library will sponsor “Life Drawing for Kids” with Chewonki at 10:30 a.m. Monday via Zoom.
This hands-on presentation will guide artists of any skill level, with a little help from Chewonki’s live animal wildlife ambassadors. Participants should come prepared with their own art materials – something as simple as a pencil and paper will suffice.

Celebrate Earth Month with clean-up events

The Town of Falmouth is celebrating Earth Month 2021 with two community clean-up events.
The first clean-up will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, with participating meeting at River Point Conservation Area Clean-Up, on Route 100, just east of the West Falmouth Crossing Shopping Center (next to Hannaford). Park at the railroad bridge or in the rear of the shopping center lot and meet at the head of the bridge.
A second clean-up event is planned for 9 a.m. to noon on April 24, meeting at Flagship Premium Cinemas, 206 US Route 1, to collect trash along the Route 1 Commercial Corridor.
Participant at both events will receive a free movie pass courtesy of Flagship Premium Cinemas in Falmouth.

History talk on Maine research vessel ‘Hero’
Camden Public Library will host a talk with maritime historian Charles H. Lagerbom at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, featuring a slideshow presentation on the history of the Maine-built research vessel called “Hero.”

Skidompha Library to offer virtual classes for teens
Skidompha Public Library Teens Services will offer two virtual classes this week, designed for ages 12 to 19.
A virtual cooking class, with local Lincoln Academy head chef Mikael Andersson, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday. He will lead the teens in making crepes with homemade whipped cream and blueberry quick jam.
Skidompha will provide all of the ingredients to make the crepes as well as a cookbook, a set of measuring spoons, measuring cups, two metal bowls, two whisks, and a wooden spatula. These items can be picked up at the library 1-2 days ahead of the class. Participants will just need to have a 2-quart pot with a thick bottom on hand. This class has 10 spots available.
Then, a virtual jewelry making class, with Aboca Beads of Damariscotta, will be offered at 6 p.m. April 20. Teens will be walked through all of the steps to make a bracelet. Participants can pick up a kit at Skidompha the week before class, that will include everything needed to complete a leather and bead bracelet and a how-to jewelry making book. This class has seven spots available.

Mid-Coast Audubon hosts talk on horseshoe crabs
Mid-Coast Audubon and Camden Public Library will host a free online Zoom presentation on the ecology of horseshoe crabs in the Great Salt Bay at 6 p.m. Thursday via Zoom.

PORTLAND
Chamber Music Festival presents Mozart Divertimento
The Portland Chamber Music Festival (PCMF) will present a full evening of music by Mozart at 7 p.m. Saturday on YouTube. The Divertimento for String Trio in E-flat Major, K. 563 will be performed by violinist Johnny Gandelsman, violist and PCMF Artistic Director Melissa Reardon, and cellist Raman Ramakrishnan.
This event is a collaboration with the Charlottesville Chamber Music Society, recorded in the historic Blithewood Manor at Bard College in New York’s Hudson River Valley. The performance will be followed by a live post-concert reception with the artists on Zoom.
The performance is available on demand for one month following the premiere.
