BIDDEFORD — Barney Hill of Biddeford, Maine (formerly of Barnstead, New Hampshire) passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 25, 2021, at the age of 94.
Barney is survived by his loving wife, Deb Hill of Biddeford, Maine; their daughter, Maresi Laverriere, her husband Chad and grandchildren Zach Reali, Marc Reali and Lola Laverriere. Barney is also survived by his daughter Nancy Daley of Concord, New Hampshire, grandson Jason Daley and his spouse; son Robert Hill and his wife, Jerri of Crystal Beach, Florida and grandchildren Philip Hill, Jeffrey Hill and Matthew Hill, their spouses and children.
Barney was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, and lived most of his life in New Hampshire, relocating to Maine in 2014. Barney is a WWII veteran and at the age of 17 enlisted in the Navy. He served his country proudly as a Seabee in Okinawa, Japan during WWII.
Barney worked for Capitol Plumbing & Heating Supply in Concord, New Hampshire and retired after 32 years. He enjoyed many years of snowmobiling in Groveton, New Hampshire and spent a lot of time with family and friends at his camp there. He loved fishing, reading Westerns and smoking his Swisher Sweets cigars. Barney loved spending a week each summer at York Beach, Maine. From crabbing with his grandchildren, to enjoying lobster, walks on the beach and watching the Little League World Series, he looked forward to this trip each year.
He took a lot of pride in watching his grandchildren play football, basketball, baseball, field hockey, softball and dance.
He was well-known for his loud, boisterous laugh and everyone who knew him knew that laugh, in fact, people recognized that laugh and him in places that he travelled from York Beach to Jamaica. No matter where he went, it seemed like someone always “knew” Barney!
There will be no calling hours at this time, a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southern Maine Hospice and Southern Maine HealthCare Cardiology.
