John Balentine writes, “I’m glad (Rush Limbaugh) lived to see the Trump administration, which tried its best, but failed, to ‘drain the swamp’ in Washington, D.C.” (“Be like Rush, a happy warrior,” Feb. 26).
REALLY? For years, Mr. Limbaugh and his loyal followers not only immersed themselves in a “swamp” of Trump’s own making, but assisted him in both growing and maintaining it.
Speaking of Trump’s “swamp,” before the 2016 election I read David Cay Johnston’s book, “The Making of Donald Trump,” in which he writes about his 25-year-long observation of the Trump family and their business “practices.” It documents a long history of corruption, deceit, fraud, lies and the intentional destruction of other people’s lives/livelihoods. Mr. Trump has been, and will continue, on this path; he loves the swamp because that is all he knows. He has a pathological mindset. However, Trump supporters do not seem to care!
By not holding Trump accountable, great damage has been done by the likes of Mr. Limbaugh, and even many of our elected officials, mostly Republicans. They keep funneling oxygen into an already combustible mix of Trump and his supporters, who are determined to shape America according to their often-distorted theories and values.
What devastating examples self-serving, morally bankrupt swamp people like Trump/family, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, Ron Johnson, to name a few, are setting! Most of us are trying to teach the younger generations the value of accountability, integrity, honesty and justice. Instead, these hypocrites are carelessly sowing the seeds of cynicism, where now the GOP stands for Group Of Phonies.
Is that what rational, principled Americans want? REALLY?
