Cheverus/Old Orchard Beach got three goals in the second period to break open a scoreless game and went on to capture the City Cup with a 4-0 girls’ hockey victory Saturday against Portland/Deering.
Lucia Pompeo opened the scoring early in the second period. Olivia Bradford then converted the rebound of a Pompeo shot before Pompeo’s second goal made it 3-0 after two periods.
Pompeo completed her hat trick with 1:18 remaining.
Trinity Atwater needed to make just nine saves for the shutout as Cheverus improved to 1-2.
Anna Gannon made 23 saves for Portland/Deering (2-2).
MT. ARARAT 4, EDWARD LITTLE 2: Ema Hawkes scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and Sarah Moore clinched the win with an empty-netter as Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse (4-2) defeated Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland (1-3) at Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn.
Allie Hunter and Bre Hunter also scored for the Eagles.
The Red Hornets got goals from Kylee Spugnardi and Megan Lachance.
BRUNSWICK 2, WINSLOW 1: Elena Palmer scored on a feed from Molly Taub with 2:35 remaining as the Dragons (1-1-1) edged Winslow/Gardiner/Cony/Messalonskee (0-2-1) at Camden National Bank Ice Vault in Hallowell.
Palmer assisted on Mia Klimash’s tying goal earlier in the third.
LEWISTON 6, YARMOUTH 1: Leah Landry two goals and two assists as the Blue Devils beat Yarmouth/Freeport at Travis Roy Ice Arena in Yarmouth.
Leah Dube had a goal and two assists, and Paige Pomerleau, Alyssa Marcoux and Bailee St. Hilaire also scored for Lewiston.
Sophie Smith scored in the second period for the Clippers.
BOYS’ HOCKEY
CHEVERUS 3, PORTLAND 1: Cal Oliver scored the go-ahead goal early in the second half as Cheverus/Yarmouth defeated Portland/Deering to win the City Cup at Troubh Ice Arena.
Matt Robichaud gave Cheverus a 1-0 lead with five minutes to go in the first half, but the Bulldogs answered on Max Cheever’s goal with 1:18 left.
After Oliver’s goal, the Stags killed four Portland power plays before Jackson Header’s goal with 2:16 left clinched the win.
Bryson Pomerleau made 20 saves for Cheverus. Ryan Becker made 26 saves for the Bulldogs.
GREELY 5, FALMOUTH 3: The Rangers (4-0) built a 3-0 lead before intermission and held on the down the Yachtsmen (2-2) at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.
Evan Dutil scored twice, Zach Dubbert and Alex Wallace each had a goal and an assist, and Brooks Williams also scored for Greely.
Owen Drummey, Xavier Grenier and Cam Charron were goal scorers for Falmouth, while Charlie Adams contributed a pair of assists.
LEWISTON 7, POLAND 1: Mason Beaudoin recorded a hat trick to lead the Blue Devils (3-1) to a victory over Poland/Leavitt/Gray-New Gloucester/Oak Hill at the Colisee in Lewiston.
Cooper St. Hilaire, Cody Dionne, Cole Ullrich and Evan Knowlton also scored for Lewiston. Daxton St. Hilaire had four assists.
Dawson Gauvin scored for the Kings to spoil Keegan McLaughlin’s shutout bid.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 43, SACOPEE VALLEY 39: Grace Bila scored nine of her 13 points in the second half as the Panthers (3-0) overcame a 10-point deficit to beat the Hawks (1-3) in Yarmouth.
Angel Huntsman added 10 points, eight steals and five assists, and Erin Reid had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Jayln Stacey led Sacopee with 15 points. Kylie Day finished with 10.
OXFORD HILLS 47, LAKE REGION 32: Cassidy Dumont scored seven of her 20 points during a 14-3 run in the third quarter as the Vikings (4-0) pulled away from the Lakers (2-3) at Naples.
Dumont dropped in four buckets from behind the arc. Brooklyn Alexander added 14 points for Oxford Hills, which led 21-20 at halftime.
Shawna Hancock led Lake Region with 10 points.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
OXFORD HILLS 72, LAKE REGION 46: Teigan Pelletier paced a balanced offense for the Vikings (5-0) in their first-ever regular-season meeting with the Lakers (1-4), at Paris.
Pelletier finished with 16 points. Elias Soehren added 12, followed by Cole Pulkkinen with 11, Hayden Paine with 10, Isaiah Oufiero with nine and Keegan Watson with eight.
Evan Willey scored 23 points for Lake Region, which trailed only 29-27 at halftime.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 63, SACOPEE VALLEY 46: Chris Hamblett scored 15 of his 21 points in the middle two quarters to help the Panthers (3-0) take control in a win over Hawks (0-4) at Yarmouth.
Hamblett also grabbed 10 rebounds, and Elliott Oney recorded a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. NYA outscored the Hawks 41-24 in the second and third quarters combined to build a 49-31 lead.
Carson Black led Sacopee with 22 points, including five 3-pointers. McGwire Sawyer tossed in 11 points and Preston Howland had 10.
