In a unanimous vote at United Insurance’s annual shareholder meeting in December, Zack Frechette was elected the next president and CEO of the company. Frechette will help ensure the company’s success as the region’s fastest-growing independent and privately owned insurance agency. A graduate of the University of Maine, Frechette has served as vice president and agency manager and most recently as chief operating officer for United.
NEW HIRES
Kara Johnson has joined Central Maine Healthcare as system director of philanthropy. Johnson is responsible for the planning and implementation of all fundraising efforts for Central Maine Healthcare. Previously, Johnson was senior director of development at Mid Coast-Parkview Health in Brunswick. She earned a degree in English literature and political science from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, and her law degree from Suffolk University School of Law in Boston.
Justin Strasburger has been hired as Full Plate Full Potential’s first executive director. Strasburger brings nearly 15 years of experience as a leader and advocate, including leading strategic initiatives and national growth strategy at Bottom Line – a college access and completion organization – as executive director of its flagship Boston region. Strasburger earned a degree in government and teaching from Bowdoin College, and began his career with Harlem Children’s Zone in New York City.
St. Joseph Healthcare in Bangor, a member of Covenant Health, has named Veronica Marchese vice president of mission integration. Marchese will work closely with the board of directors, senior management and clinical staff. Marchese worked in leadership for Catholic ministries, specializing in behavioral health, research and ministry formation as staff chaplain at St. John’s Hospitals in Camarillo and Oxnard, California. Marchese holds degrees from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, California, National University in La Jolla, California, Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, and San Francisco State University.
BOARD APPOINTMENTS
The American Civil Liberties Union of Maine has elected Berman & Simmons attorney Jodi Nofsinger as president of its board of directors. She has served on the board since 2009, most recently as vice president and equity officer, and has assisted the ACLU of Maine on cases, most notably the groundbreaking victory to secure the rights of transgender students to use the correct bathroom for their gender. Nofsinger became only the 22nd trial lawyer in Maine – and only the third woman – inducted as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2014. She has been a member of the American Association for Justice since 2003, and the board of governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association since 2002.
Jeremy Fischer has been named chair of the Jobs for Maine’s Graduates board of directors. Fischer is an attorney with the Portland-based law firm Drummond Woodsum. He previously served three terms in the Maine Legislature, where he was House chair of the Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs.
Jobs for Maine’s Graduates also welcomed other new board members including Jean Sanders, director of tax at L.L. Bean, Jon Mason, vice president of human resources at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Jesse Cyr, director of strategic communications at Wex Inc., and Shawn Cunningham, news anchor at WAGM in Presque Isle. The board enhanced its expertise in education by welcoming Ginny Swain, professor emerita at Dartmouth College, and Glenn Cummings, president of the University of Southern Maine.
The board of directors of the Ogunquit Museum of American Art has assembled a new executive committeethat incudes President David J. Mallen of Ogunquit, Vice President Carol Leary of Ogunquit, Secretary Allyson M. Cavaretta of York and treasurer Alan Shephard of Kennebunk. Mallen is a partner and founder of The Wilder Companies, a Boston-based commercial real estate and development company. Leary oversaw Bay Path’s transition from college to university status and served as president of Bay Path University in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Cavaretta is founder of Lexington Capital and a principal in her family’s real estate investment business. Shepard is an attorney with Shepard and Read in Kennebunk, specializing in real estate, divorce and small business litigation.
