Hastings excelled in the pool and helped keep the Stags atop the Class A heap for another year.
Hastings has contributed to the Cheverus program since his freshman season and soon emerged as one of the state’s elite sprinters. After coming in second in both the 50 freestyle and 100 free as a junior, Hastings had no peer as a senior.
Regardless the distance, Hastings dominated in the freestyle from the get-go, winning the 50, 100, 200 and 500 at various times. He was then at his best in the postseason.
At Southwesterns, Hastings won the 50 free in 22.06 seconds and the 100 free in 48.12. He also helped the 200 free relay team to a victory as the Stags placed second to Cape Elizabeth in the final standings.
At states, as Cheverus won the Class A crown for the eighth year in a row, Hastings won the 50 free (lowering his time to 21.58) and the 100 free (47.12). He also helped the 400 free relay squad place first.
“(Quinton) set the bar on work ethic in and out of the pool,” said longtime Stags’ coach Kevin Haley. “He’s a very hard-working young man who made his family, team and school very proud.”
Quinton Hastings, Cheverus’ Winter Male Athlete of the Year had a senior season to remember and he isn’t finished in the pool. He’ll next take his talents to Williams College, where he figures to continue to impress.
Coach Kevin Haley’s comment: “Quinton has been an amazing swimmer and leader for us. He has incredible integrity and character. I’m truly blessed to have been one of his coaches.”

Jordan turned heads on the basketball court with her tenacity and leadership and if that wasn’t enough, she also moonlighted as one of the state’s top shot putters. Put it all together and you have an award-winning resume.
Jordan, fresh off playing a huge role in leading Cheverus’ girls’ soccer team to its best season to date in the fall, helped make Billy Goodman’s first season as basketball coach a smooth and successful one.
The Stags improved from five wins to 11 and were a very tough matchup, especially when Jordan was on the floor. After making the SMAA All-Rookie team as a sophomore and the league’s all-star team as a junior, Jordan’s senior year saw her wind up averaging 8.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, but those numbers don’t do justice to her impact. Jordan was also a top defender and displayed an intensity that teammates and coaches love.
Highlights included 19 points and 12 rebounds in an early-season, statement-making victory over defending Class AA South champion Scarborough, 15 points in a win over Edward Little, 11 points in a victory over Massabesic, 11 points in a win over Deering, 16 points in a victory over Lewiston, 10 points, four assists and a pair of steals in a second win over Deering and 15 points and seven rebounds in a dramatic regular season-ending victory over Windham.
Jordan bowed out with a team-high 15 points, five rebounds and two steals in a quarterfinal round playoff loss to Windham.
Oh yeah, about the track moonlighting, the day of Cheverus’ regular season win over Windham, Jordan won the senior shot put at the SMAA championship meet with a throw of 40 feet, 1.75 inches. She then finished runner-up at states with a top throw of 38-6.25.
It was quite a year for Lauren Jordan, Cheverus’ Winter Female Athlete of the Year, who isn’t finished yet. Don’t be surprised if she goes on to make her mark at the college level too.
Basketball coach Billy Goodman‘s comment: “Lauren did it all for us on the court. She didn’t have a weakness. She played very good defense, handled the ball and was our leading scorer. She wanted us to have a successful year and was a big reason for our success this year. She was a special leader for us. Athletes like her don’t come around very often.”
