BRUNSWICK — Gia Guernelli scored two goals, including the game-winner with 9:52 left in
regulation, to lift the Brunswick High School field hockey team to a 4-2 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Morse on Wednesday.
The Dragons are 6-6 and visit Edward Little today at 3:30 p.m., while the Shipbuilders fell to 5-6 and entertain Belfast on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Guernelli scored the lone goal of the first half.
In the second half, Kelsey Sullivan made it a 2-0 contest, scoring off an assist from Lauren Jacobs.
Macey Coffin drew Morse to within a goal with 10:41 left, but Guernelli answered with Ellie Sullivan assisting.
Addy Jung again brought the visitors to 3-2 with 2:30 remaining, but Caroline White set up Abbie Belanger less than two minutes later for the game’s final goal.
Morse goaltender Emily Myers made two saves, while Brunswick’s Liberty Krauss turned aside one.
Freeport 0, Poland 0
Regulation and two overtimes failed to settle a thing as Poland and Freeport finished in a Western Maine Conference deadlock
Ashton Sturtevant made 14 saves for Poland (6-5-1), while Piper Sherbert stopped five shots for Freeport (8-3-2), which concludes its regular season at home against Yarmouth next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Mountain Valley 3, Lisbon 0
Ryley Sevigny had two goals as the visiting Falcons downed the Greyhounds in Mountain Valley Conference play.
Avery Sevigny also had a goal for Mountain Valley (10-2), while goaltender Nora Tag made one save.
Lisbon’s Rebecca Budesheim had 12 saves as the Greyhounds fell to 2-10 and host Hall-Dale on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Boys soccer
DIXFIELD — Danny Levesque powered his way to four goals to lead Lisbon to a 6-1 MVC win over Dirigo.
The Greyhounds are 9-2 and visit Mt. Abram on Friday at 6 p.m. It is a rematch of the Roadrunners’ 3-2 win at Lisbon on Sept. 11.
Levesque scored both Lisbon goals in the first half, sandwiched around a Nolan Downs goal for Dirigo, as the Greyhounds led 2-1 at the break. Elijah Fullerton assisted on Levesque’s first goal.
In the second half, Bryce Poulin finished a DJ Douglass setup for a 3-1 lead, and Douglass scored three minutes later off a pass from Ethan Brown. Levesque finished the scoring with two more goals, the second assisted by Douglass.
Calvin Jeleskis had a solid game on defense for the Greyhounds, and Lisbon finished with a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
Bowdoin College
BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin cruised to a 5-0 non-conference field hockey win over visiting UMaine-Farmington.
The Polar Bears are 9-1 on the season as the Beavers dropped to 1-9.
Bowdoin got on the board 6:24 into action. Elizabeth Growney carried deep into the right corner and sent a long cross into the circle. Kara Finnerty deflected the ball towards Emma Stevens on stroke for a touch into net.
Growney added an unassisted marker five minutes later, and Bowdoin put up three goals in the third quarter to pull away.
Bowdoin plays at Connecticut College on Saturday at noon.
Girls soccer
AUGUSTA — Eliza Libby scored a hat trick to lead Mt. Ararat to a 5-0 KVAC win over Cony.
Libby and Morgan Ruff scored in the first half for the Eagles (7-3). In the second half, Ariana Graybill made it 3-0, and Libby tallied the final two goals.
Erin Harty picked up two assists.
Mt. Ararat goaltenders Elsa Daulerio and Maddi Kinney each made a save.
Mt. Ararat visits Messalonskee on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
