AUBURN  — After a scoreless first half, Freeport erupted for four goals in an eight-minute span of the second half to down St. Dominic’s Academy, 4-2, in a Western Maine Conference high school field hockey battle on Tuesday.

Autumn Golding opened the scoring four minutes into the second frame, and following goals by Ally Randall and Hannah Groves, Golding scored again for the four-goal lead. Golding also had an assist on the Groves goal.

St. Dom’s made it 4-1 midway through the half and tacked on a late goal.

Piper Sherbert made nine saves in net for the Falcons, who improved to 8-3-1 and sits comfortably in second place behind York in the Class B South Heal Point Standings with two regular season games remaining.

Freeport finishes the season with a trip to Poland today (4:30 p.m.) and at home against Yarmouth on Oct. 16 (6 p.m.)

Mt. Ararat 1, Brewer 0

The Eagles bounced back from a tough loss to Cony on Saturday with a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over the visiting Witches. 

Brynn Charron finished off a pass from Wyley Fitzpatrick for the game’s lone goal as Mt. Ararat improved to 9-3 and visits Mt. Blue on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

Lily Schenk and Emma Lapreziosa each made three saves in one half of work in the Mt. Ararat net, while Madison Diaz turned away 18 shots. 

Girls soccer

ROCKLAND — Morse received goals from Emily Martin, Nicole Brazee, Giorgia Fisher and Mary LaRochelle as the Shipbuilders sailed to an 8-0 KVAC win over Oceanside.

Delaney Pascuzzo, Wren Tetreault, Dory Kulis and Audrey Crews each had assists as the ’Builders improved to 4-5-1 on the season.

Morse travels to Lincoln Academy on Friday for a 4 p.m. contest.

Freeport 5, York 2

Freeport scored three goals four minutes apart in the first half and added two more in the second frame as the Falcons downed York in WMC action.

Rachel Wall scored the first of her two goals less than 14 minutes into the contest off a Catriona Gould helper. Hannah Spaulding added a goal two minutes later, and after a York score, Tia Peterson finished the first-half scoring spree with a tally with 22 minutes remaining.

Wall and Gould each scored second-half goals as the Falcons put the game away. Carly Intraversato registered three assists and Leah Rusiecki turned away 15 shots in net as Freeport improved to 9-1-1. 

Freeport hosts Yarmouth on Thursday for a 6 p.m. game.

Brunswick 4, Edward Little 0

At Brunswick, the host Dragons (7-2) rolled to a KVAC win over the Red Eddies. 

Isabella Banks tallied a pair of goals in the win, while Kynli VanLeer and Molly Taub chipped in a goal each. Taub and Emma Banks picked up an assist. 

Aisley Snell turned away three shots and Ophelia Ladner had one save in the Brunswick cage. 

The Dragons visit Hampden Academy on Saturday at 1 p.m. 

Oak Hill 4, Wiscasset 0

Four different players scored a goal each as the Raiders hustled to a Mountain Valley Conference victory over the Wolverines at Wales. 

Anna Beach, Gabrielle Chessie, Magdolyn Ryder and Audrey Bauer had the Oak Hill (7-3) goals, while Paige Gonya and Riley Crosby combined on four saves for the shutout. 

Lily Souza turned away 23 shots in the Wiscasset cage. 

The Wolverines (2-9) host Telstar on Thursday at 6 p.m. 

Boys soccer

BATH — Maxon Brochu scored the game’s lone goal with 4:52 remaining in the first half as Morse came away with a 1-0 KVAC win over Oceanside on McMann Field.

The Shipbuilders earned their second win (2-8) and visits Lincoln Academy on Friday at 6 p.m. 

Lucas Ouimette set up Brochu for the winning goal, with Brochu launching a 35-yard shot into the lower part of the net. 

Ben Holland had 16 saves for the Mariners, while Morse keeper Branton Cahill made five saves. The Shipbuilders controlled play, holding a 7-3 edge in corner kicks. 

Defensively, Morse was led by Sam Kirkpatrick and Asa Hodgdon, while Ouimette and Gavin Hanna were solid up front. Brochu was the spark Morse needed both offensively and defensively. 

Girls volleyball

BRUNSWICK — Brunswick/Mt. Ararat fell to Cheverus, 3-1, in a match at Brunswick High School. 

The Dragons (1-9) won the first set, 25-21, but dropped the next three — 25-11, 26-24 and 25-21.

The Dragons were led by Kathleen Trapp (seven kills, six digs), Kassidy Dixon (five kills, six digs), Sabrina Cooper (five kills) and Naomi Martin (eight aces, 21 assists).

Brunswick/Mt. Ararat will host South Portland on Friday at 6 p.m.
