Hollywood Movies Studios hired blockbuster actor Miles Kendrick to play the role of a fire fighter in its latest movie, “Rescue!” Studio bigwigs sent Kendrick to Logan Falls to live and work with fire fighters and from what we hear, Kendrick came back to Hollywood a changed man. Anonymous sources provided your trusty Hollywood reporter with the notes Kendrick left behind at the firehouse. We publish them here so you can decide for yourself.
Monday
No welcome parade, but hey, it’s a small town. They probably didn’t have time to get one together. Nice selfie with the Chief for Instagram. Another one with the fire truck. He showed me my bed. “You mean we all sleep in the same room? And where do I put my suitcases?” He pointed to a storage room. Rough going, but I’ll have to make do.
Everybody’s pretty nice. I climbed onto the fire truck and they issued me fire gear. Helmet is cool! Over 1000 likes on my selfie with the helmet on and 1500 likes of me mugging with the Dalmatian.
Quiet day. Bored! Asked why I couldn’t ride around in the fire truck a while. “What if there’s a fire?” the Chief said. I told him that’s what cell phones are for— call me.
Everybody takes turns cooking supper. They have me on the list for Wednesday. I will have to call Chef Henri and get him here pronto. Good dinner tonight though and I heard a lot of good stories.
Tuesday
I cannot believe I was awakened at 3 in the morning by a siren. Lights on, everybody throwing on gear. “Wait!” I yelled. “I need to brush my teeth!”
“You’re funny, Kendrick,” they said, but I wasn’t joking. Zoom, zoom, they all went down the pole. Chief suggested I should practice yesterday, but it didn’t look that hard. Well, I didn’t count on doing it half asleep in the middle of the night. I fell flat on my butt.
And, guess what? We got to the house and it was a false alarm. A man frying bacon and the smoke from cooking set off the fire alarm. “Don’t cook in the middle of the night!” I told him.
He gave me a dirty look. “I’m making breakfast?”
Well, who does that at 3 a.m.?
By the time we got back to the station, I no sooner got back to sleep when the siren went off again. “Are you kidding me?” I screamed.
Everyone laughed. “You’re getting a real taste of it now, Kendrick,” they said.
“Can we at least stop for coffee on the way?” and they laughed even harder.
Well, it was a real fire, a grass fire on the side of the road, most likely from a cigarette. The wind changed direction as they sprayed water on the fire and all of us got wet. By the time the fire was out, I was cold and shivering.
The rest of the day was quiet. We worked on cleaning up the fire truck, but honestly, I think they should hire someone to do that. It’s a lot of work.
Wednesday
Another fire last night at a house. I could feel the heat of the blaze from the street and saw three of our fire fighters run into the house. They rescued a Mom and her little girl. Never have I seen anything so brave. I know I couldn’t have done it.
Perfect timing for Chef Henri. I’m throwing a party and the whole town is invited. Tonight belongs to the heroes of the Logan Falls Fire Department
