BOWDOIN — Route 201 in Bowdoin was closed for nearly four hours Monday afternoon after a truck hit a utility pole and damaged wires, according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported in the area of 1160 Augusta Road (Route 201) at 2:15 p.m., according to Chief Deputy Brett Strout.
The sheriff’s office is still investigating the cause of the crash, Strout said Monday.
Bowdoin Fire Chief Tom Garrepy said traffic was detoured using Route 125 and Post Road in Bowdoin.
Garrepy said a pickup struck the pole, snapping it and pulling down power, cable and telephone lines into the road. The driver was treated at the scene but wasn’t taken to a hospital.
Central Maine Power Co. arrived at the scene within about 10 minutes, Garrepy said. The utility was waiting for Consolidated Communications to replace the utility pole so its workers could restore the power lines.
As of 3:30 p.m., CMP had 881 customers without power in Bowdoin, 131 customers without power in Topsham and 47 customers without power in Bowdoinham, according to its website.
Power was restored early that evening, and the road reopened around 6:30 p.m
