The accident, which was reported at 9:59 a.m., blocked traffic on both sides of Route 1, also known as the Portland Road, for nearly four hours.
Only the motorcycle was involved in the accident that took place on the southbound lane of the road near Prime Ford-Saco at 857 Portland Road, Saco Police Corporal Theodore Gagnon said.
The driver of the motorcycle was Christopher Moatt, 49, of Saco, his wife, Peggy, 48 was a passenger. Both were transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland. When brought to the hospital, Christopher Moatt was in critical condition and Peggy was in stable condition, Gagnon said. On Monday, hospital spokeswoman Caroline Cornish said Peggy Moatt was in critical condition; there was no new information on Christopher Moatt’s condition.
“Neither occupant of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet,” Deputy Chief Corey Huntress said.
Information about how the accident occurred has not been released. The accident “is still under investigation,” Huntress said. Maine State Police are handling the investigation, he said, adding that it usually takes about 60 days to learn the results.
