“All things Local” Summer Programs, a series of lectures, events and a concert will take place throughout July and August at Popham Beach Library. All programs start at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Free parking is available behind the building. 

 Library hours through September are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and in July and August, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

The Summer Program is offered at the Library on Thursdays in July and August, kicking off with an Open House, including refreshments, on Friday, July 5 from 4-6 p.m. 

On July 11, Ellen Hart, along with poets Helene McLaughin and Pam Burr Smith, will offer “An Afternoon with Emily Dickinson” at 3 p.m. 

On July 18, the Zerbini Family Circus will be at Phippsburg School Grounds at 6 p.m. Sponsored by the Popham Chapel Anniversary Committee, it is a fundraiser for the Chapel’s 125th. Pre-purchase tickets at the library for $10 per adult (up to two children under 12 free with an adult ticket). 

On July 25, R. de Villers Seymour, author of “Beyond: Popham Colony,” will speak about his book and the sequel he is working on.

Lynda Doughty, founder and director of Marine Mammals of Maine, will share her organization’s goals and mission on Aug. 1. 

Cyndy Carney, executive director of the Friends of Seguin Island Light, will be at the library on Aug. 22 to share the latest news about this local historic landmark. 

Special events for this year include the Annual Fort Popham Concert featuring the Bath Municipal Band under the direction of Kathy Downing on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m.  Donations are appreciated for this event.  

Popham’s Flare Night takes place Friday, Aug. 16. Starting at dusk with a local parade led by George Popham from the Fort Baldwin Parking Lot, the parade celebrates the arrival of the Popham Colonists in 1607. Capping off the evening will be a beach bonfire and flares lighting up the beach and fort. The ladies of the Popham Circle will have their Café open to sell food, dessert and beverages. All are welcome.
