Unofficial results show voters in Lisbon Tuesday approved a spending plan that is poised to increase property taxes 2.5%.
The $16.8 million budget was approved 209-156, according to unofficial results posted by the town clerk.
Should the municipal budget be approved, overall spending would increase by $386,434, or 2.5%. A hearing on the municipal budget takes place June 25.
Nineteen voters indicated on their ballot stated they voted against the budget because it was too low, 154 indicated it was too high
For a home valued at $200,000, the tax bill is now set to increase $132 from $4,968.
Lisbon voters also approved a measure to continue ratification of the school budget at the ballot box for another three years, 288-71. The town was required by statute to place that question to voters.
All members of Lisbon’s town council will now be at-large, after voters approved merging the town’s two voting districts into one, 258-103. Separate voting districts were created when the town switched from a town meeting form of government to one led by the council.
There was no declared candidate to fill the unfinished term of District 2 Councilor Kris Crawford, who stepped down earlier this year; 210 voters cast a blank in that race. There was no word Wednesday morning as to whether a write-in was elected.
There were 366 total ballots cast.
