BIDDEFORD – Paige Laverriere’s four goals and one assist led the Biddeford girls’ lacrosse team to an 11-4 victory over Brunswick on Monday evening at Waterhouse Field.

After two close games – Biddeford lost 10-9 against Thornton Academy on Wednesday and won 10-9 over Lake Region on Friday – the Tigers’ head coach Caitlin Albert was proud of the day’s effort.
“Today’s game was much needed after last week,” said Albert. “I think coming off two close games, we needed to pull away and be able to play with poise.”
Less than five minutes into the first half, Laverriere opened the scoring off of a pass from teammate Megan Mourmouras.
The Tigers went on a 4-0 run before the Dragons scored.
With 3:15 left in the first half, Gia Guernelli scored for Brunswick on a one-on-one possession.
Brunswick’s Emily Cloutier would net a shot less than a minute later to give the Tigers just a two-point lead.
With 35 seconds left in the first half, Laverriere scored to produce a 5-2 score going into the break.
“I thought we really presented how our team is going to play for the rest of the year,” said Laverriere. “We had our downs but now we’re rising back up. I’m really proud of them today.”
Biddeford went on a 5-0 streak to start the second half – Mourmouras scored a pair of back-to-back goals to put the game out of Brunswick’s reach.
The Dragons attempted a rally with two goals during the last 10 minutes but it was too little, too late.
With three minutes left in the competition, Brooke Reissfelder scored to create the final 11-4 and secure the win for the Tigers.
“The attitude was positive,” said Mourmouras. “We’re working together as a team and it’s really coming together. I’m looking forward to the second half of the season.”

Grace Boisvert agreed with her teammate.
“We all really came together as team with connecting passes up the field and good momentum,” she said.
Mourmouras finished with three goals and two assists. Kairlye McQueen added two goals, while Boisvert and Reissfelder both chipped in one.
Cloutier led the Dragons with two goals. Guernelli and Rian Sachs both added one.
Biddeford was able to open up the game thanks to their senior leadership Laverriere, Mourmouras, Boisvert and the injured Hailey Allen.
“The leadership is really strong and I think we need that because we have a lot of new girls,” said Albert. “Hailey’s injured but she makes a huge difference. She does all the sideline stuff and gets everybody pumped up.”
The Tigers improved to 4-2 with the win, while the Dragons drop to 2-2.
Biddeford will travel to Deering today and Bonny Eagle on Thursday, while Brunswick hosts Oxford Hills on Wednesday.
“The weather says snow but we’re still going to play,” said Albert. “It’s three big games this week.”
