WATERBORO – Kenzy Ouellette’s five goals and three assists led the Massabesic girls lacrosse team to a 15-8 victory over Marshwood on Thursday night.

It also kept a perfect season alive.

“These two programs have a history of putting on quite a show whenever they come together regardless of what our records are or what time of the year it is,” said Massabesic head coach Brooks Bowen. “These are always good games.”

It was a clash of offenses during Thursday’s game. Ouellette scored early to open the scoring.

Marshwood’s Ruby Albers scored seven minutes into the first half to create the only tie of the game at 1-all.

The Mustangs answered Albers’ goal with a 3-0 streak to secure a lead they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the evening.

The Hawks rallied before halftime, going on a 3-1 run of their own, cutting the Mustang’s edge to a point at 5-4. But Massabesic went on its second 3-0 spurt of the half to open up an 8-4 advantage going into the half.

The Mustangs dominated the second half, opening with a 4-0 run coming out of the break and went on to cruise to a 15-8 win.

Marshwood’s Celine Lawrence scored all four of the Hawks’ goals in the second half.

Ouellette’s performance was supported by Skylar Renaud. Renaud finished with four goals and three assists. Cailyn Forrester added three goals and one assist, while Micaela Jacobs added two and Camryn Champlin chipped in one.

Lawrence led the Hawks with five goals, Albers added two and Meagan Wentworth finished with one.

Bowen was proud of every player’s performance.

“We started a pretty good rotation in the second half, and we did some coaching up while we were substituting and sending them back out on the field – really intelligent bunch,” he said. “When you can do that, you don’t have to wait until you get to a practice – you’re doing it live in a game setting that makes you that much better – you’re seeing results immediately and that’s a coach’s dream.”

The Mustangs improved to 5-0 with the win, while the Hawks drop to 1-3.

“We’re obviously happy with the record but what’s really important for us is for us to continue to recognize that we are young,” Bowen said. “We have to take advantage of every minute of practice and make sure that we’re improving.”
