FREEPORT — Junior Molly Whelan tallied four goals and dished out an assist to power the Freeport High School girls lacrosse team to a 14-6 Western Maine Conference victory over York on Wednesday.
Freshman Savannah Tracy also scored four goals in the win as the Falcons improved to 2-1. Seniors Allison Greuel and Margaret Perrotta each had two goals. Sophomore Meredith Feller had one goal and two assists, with Aynslie Decker, Hannah Groves and Helen Pope each adding an assist.
Freeport goaltender Piper Sherbert turned away 17 shots.
York’s Martha McFadding led the Wildcats with two goals, with netminder Julianna Kiklis making seven stops.
Baseball
TURNER — Asa Hodgdon launched a home run, and Gabe Aucoin had three hits as Morse rallied for a 7-3 KVAC win over Leavitt.
The Shipbuilders are 4-2 and host Medomak Valley today at 4 p.m.
Jackson Walker pitched 4 2/3 innings with 10 strikeouts and seven walks. Isaac Flaming relieved and tossed 2 1/3 scoreless frames for the win with three strikeouts and a walk.
Tom Warren, Caleb Tibbitts and Flaming added a double each.
Oren Shaw and Darren Dewitt had a pair of his for the Hornets. Mark Herman took the loss, going 6 1/3 innings on nine hits, three walks and six strikeouts.
Oxford Hills 10, Brunswick 0
Colton Carson had 10 strikeouts and permitted just one hit as the Vikings rolled to a KVAC win over Dragons at Brunswick.
Jonny Pruett had three hits, including a double and two RBIs, for Oxford Hills (6-0). Cam Slicer and Wyatt Williamson chipped in a pair of hits each, with Will Dieterich adding a double.
Brunswick visits Mt. Blue on Friday.
Softball
FREEPORT — Abby Brier had three singles to lead a 14-hit attack as Freeport rallied for an 8-3 WMC win over Greely.
The Falcons have won three straight to improve to 3-1. Freeport visits Cape Elizabeth on Friday at 4 p.m.
Trailing 3-0 in the second, Freeport scored a run. In the third, the Falcons exploded for six runs for a 7-3 advantage.
Brier scored a pair of runs, while Alexys Langley, Sarah Gray, Brooke Pawlowski and Ann Kelly had two hits apiece. Langley and Gray drove in a pair of runs and doubled.
Alexa Koenig earned the mound win with two strikeouts and three walks.
Taylor LaFlamme and Janelle Taylor had a pair of hits for Greely, with Sawyer Dusch and Lauren Carrell adding a double each.
Audrey Boyle allowed 14 hits and two walks with six strikeouts for the Rangers.
Medomak Valley 11, Mt. Ararat 5
The visiting Panthers jumped on the Eagles to two runs in the first and five more in the second en route to a KVAC win at Topsham.
Mt. Ararat fell to 0-5 and visits Bangor today.
Medomak Valley received a first inning two-run homer from Addie Jamerson for a 2-0 edge. In the second, the Panthers extended their lead.
The Eagles stayed in the game thanks to three straight perfect frames from the third to the fifth. Mt. Ararat’s bats came alive in the fourth, scoring a run, and the Eagles added four more runs in the sixth as Jaden Lohr hit a bases-loaded double and Megan Reed picked up an RBI with a single.
MacKenzie Freeman paced Medomak (4-1) with two hits, including a double. Amanda O’Neill went 2-for-4 for Mt. Ararat, with Reed finishing with a pair of hits.
Oxford Hills 15, Brunswick 2
The Dragons saw their two-game winning streak come to an end as the undefeated Vikings cruised to a KVAC win.
Kaira McLeod limited Brunswick (2-4) to six hits, and the Dragons committed eight fielding errors.
Madison Day scored four runs and had two hits for Oxford Hills (6-0), while Lauren Merrill chipped in a pair of doubles and touched the plate three times.
Shea Sullivan and Hannah Fortier had a pair of hits each for the Dragons, who visit Mt. Blue on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
Morse 13, Leavitt 2
The Shipbuilders put up six runs in the fourth and another three in the fifth en route to a KVAC win over the Hornets at Turner.
Paige Faulkingham homered, singled and drove in a pair for Morse (3-3), while Brooke and Dory Kulis each tripled and singled with two RBIs. Abby Carpenter doubled and drove in a pair, with Halle Johnson adding three hits, incuding a double, and three RBIs. Anastasia Alaboudi, Julia Goddard and Caitlyn Bradford each singled as Morse had 15 hits.
Carlie Leavitt, Amica Mitchell and Abby Prosser picked up a single each for Leavitt.
Dory Kulis fanned 13 and walked one in earning the mound win.
Morse visits Medomak Valley today at 4 p.m.
Carrabec 17, Wiscasset 4
The visiting Cobras scored in all five innings en route to a Mountain Valley Conference win at Wiscasset.
Sarah Olson, Nevaeh Burnham and Jasmyne Pray each had multiple hits for Carrabec (1-1), which pounded out 15 hits.
Wiscasset, which fell to 0-4, visits Dirigo on Friday.
