BRUNSWICK — Brunswick won its second game of the season as the Dragons defeated Lincoln Academy, 7-3, in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference high school softball game on Tuesday.
Shea Sullivan went the distance for the victory, limiting the Eagles to three hits while striking out nine.
Sullivan opened the scoring in the first inning as she belted her third home run of the season over the center-field fence.
The Dragons increased their lead to 4-0 later in the game when Alexis Guptill delivered a clutch two-out single to drive home Sullivan and Mia Klimash. Earlier in the inning Sullivan drove home Mia DeSantis, who reached on a base hit.
Klimash and Kelsey Sullivan scored the Dragons’ final three runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Kelsey Sullivan delivered a solid double down the left-field line and scored when Shea Sullivan collected her third RBI of the game.
Mia Northrup was the lone repeat hitter for Lincoln Academy (2-1) and she scored a pair of runs.
Kelsey Sullivan doubled twice for the Dragons (2-3), while sister Shea had three hits.
Brunswick hosts Oxford Hills today at 4 p.m.
Buckfield 5, Richmond 2
Buckfield 8, Richmond 5
The host Bucks claimed an East-West Conference doubleheader sweep over the Bobcats.
In the opener, Hannah Shields launched a three-run homer to lift Buckfield, turning a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead.
Cam Merrill struck out seven in the win.
In the second game, Richmond (0-2) came out strong, putting up five runs in the first two innings.
But, Buckfield stormed back with eight runs over the final three frames for the come-from-behind win.
Shield was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Merrill took over in the second inning and shut the Bobcats down the rest of the way.
Caitlin Kendrick and Paige Lebel each doubled for Richmond, which hosts Forest Hills and Valley on Thursday.
Baseball
KITTERY — Freeport erupted for nine runs in the sixth inning to break a 5-5 deadlock for a Western Maine Conference win over Traip Academy.
Toby Holt and Shea Wagner had three hits each for the Falcons (3-0), while Heath Cockburn and Anthony Panciocco drove in two runs apiece.
Teddy Driscoll had three hits for the Rangers.
Freeport hosts Greely today at 4 p.m.
USM 18, Bowdoin 0
Joshua Jay carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning as the University of Southern Maine rolled to a win over Bowdoin.
The third-ranked Huskies are 28-5 on the year. The Polar Bears dropped to 6-20-2.
Southern Maine erupted for eight runs in the third inning to break the game open. Kip Richard and Sam Troiano each had RBI singles, with Troiano driving in two. Devin Warren tripled to center field with the bases loaded and came home to score on an error late in the play.
The Polar Bears play at Colby tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Girls lacrosse
BATH — Kate Seekins had five goals and an assist to power the visiting Messalonskee Eagles to a 17-6 KVAC win over the Morse on McMann Field.
Morse (1-2) hosts St. Dom’s on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Messalonskee (1-2) jumped out to an 8-4 halftime lead.
Kaitlyn Smith chipped in three goals in the win, with Chloe Tilley and Jenna Cassani adding two goals each. Shauna Clark and Abigayle Barney each picked up a goal and an assist.
Marija Medenica led Morse with three goals, while Maddie McDonough, Kylie Grendell and Emily Belanger added a goal each.
Sadie Colby turned away five shots in the Messalonskee cage, while Shipbuilder Abby Sreden turned away 14 shots. The Eagles held a 20-5 advantage in draw controls.
Tennis
BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College men’s and women’s tennis teams will face Williams in the NESCAC quarterfinals at Tufts University on Friday.
The third-seeded women take on No. 6 Williams at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, while the fourth-seeded Polar Bear men face No. 5 Williams at 9 a.m.
The winners advance to the semifinals on Saturday.
