ARUNDEL — An afternoon car crash in Arundel knocked over a live utility wire sparking a small grass fire that was extinguished by firefighters on Friday afternoon.
According to York County Sheriff William L. King, Jr., deputies responded to the scene of a one-vehicle crash on Log Cabin Road near the intersection of Lombard Road in Arundel about 1:15 p.m. Friday.
“Upon arrival, deputies discovered that Leila Jahncke, 78, of Kennebunk was operating a 2006 Toyota Corolla on Log Cabin Road when she reportedly fell asleep,” King said.
Her vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole, shearing it in half and sending live wires to the ground.
“The live wires caused a small grass fire which was extinguished quickly by the Arundel Fire Department,” King said.
Jahncke was not injured and was not taken to the hospital for treatment, he said.
Log Cabin Road was closed for about 45 minutes until workers replaced the utility pole and the vehicle was removed from the accident scene.
