BRUNSWICK — The winter sports season has been completed and several athletes have been recognized in postseason awards.
In the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference, the Brunswick girls basketball team saw Charlotte MacMillan named the KVAC Class A South Player of the Year. She was joined by teammates Marley Groat, Rosalie White and Emily Larochelle.

Mt. Ararat’s Kyla Greenleaf earned First Team honors, while Eagle Theresa Breed and Dragon Logan Brown picked up Second Team nods.
Mt. Ararat’s Ainsley Bryant, Grace Liedman and Abby Sirois were recognized for their academic achievements.
In KVAC Class B boys, Brunswick’s Noah Cox and Finn Mitchell, along with Morse’s Tom Warren and Mt. Ararat’s Jared Balser, who was named the KVAC South Player of the Year, are on the First Team, while Second Team honors went to Mt. Ararat’s Austin Damon and Max Spelke, along with Brunswick’s Sam Sharpe. All Academic awards went to Brunswick’s Nuri Rosen, Mt. Ararat’s Sean Robert and Spelke, and Morse’s Arius Eich.
Swimmers were highly recognized. At Morse, Olivia Harper was named Maine Female High School Swimmer of the Year along with joining teammates Hailey Harper and Ella Martin on the KVAC Class B First Team. Olivia Harper also was named an All-American in the 100 backstroke, and is in the running for both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Martin and Emma Warner were presented All Academic awards, while Martin and Sarah Berkowitz received All-American Academic nods.
Shipbuilders Evan Willertz, Dominic Marco, Alex Gurney and Brandon Johnson picked up KVAC First Team honors.
Brunswick swimmers Nicco Bartone, Chris Tucker (academic), Matt Yost (academic) and Cam Ashby made the KVAC Class A First Team and were joined by Mt. Ararat’s Anibal Berry-Gaviria, Nathaniel Smith, Nicolas Holland, Robert Hyde, Caleb Williams and Max Bickford. Trey Curtis and Parker Eckert of Brunswick picked up All-Academic honors.
In girls KVAC Class A swimming, Mt. Ararat’s Cora Spelke made the First Team, with All-Academic honors going to Brunswick’s Katherine Hartnett, Elinore Kosak, Anna Kousky, Alex Morse and Emma White, along with Mt. Ararat’s Bethany Dube and Riley Robertson.
Brunswick’s Beth Labbe and Shea Sullivan were selected for the KVAC girls hockey First Team, with Sullivan and Harriet Peabody picking up All-Academic honors. Academic accolades also went to Mt. Ararat’s Amber Card, Alyssa Dau and Kelsea Dwelley.
Mt. Ararat cheerleaders Avery Estela (First Team), Amanda O’Neill (Second Team) and Carolina Razera (Academic) received honors, while Morse’s Elli Bonzagni (First Team) was recognized.

Several indoor track athletes were recognized. On the KVAC boys First Team are Brunswick’s Sam Cenescar, Andrew Chingos, Jack Harvey, Mitchell Leinert, Daniel Lyons, Kian Murray, Hunter Parker, Will Shaughnessy and Joey Valliere, with Mt. Ararat’s Tyler Bernier, Holden Brannon, Hunter Lohr, Cameron Orr and Grady Satterfield. Dragons Leinert and Shaughnessy were named the Co-Athletes of the Year.
In girls indoor track, Mt. Ararat’s Jackie Brochu, Wyley Fitzpatrick, Campbell Tankersley, Holly Temple, Mary Wheeler and Sara York, along with Brunswick’s Isabella Banks, Kaeden Green, Aela Hemberger, Tea Kepler and Maddie Wayne were named to the KVAC First Team.
And earning All-Academic honors were Brunswick’s Kepler, Desiree Tanner, Lyons, Donald Bromiley, Aiden Glover, Logan Holt and Murray, and Mt. Ararat’s Tankersley, York, Caitlin Chambers, Emma Pottle, Emily Smith, Zoe Stevenson, Bernier, Lohr, Jax Hollenbach, Jack Mathieu and Ethan Rac.
Morse’s Thomas Trundy and Mae Winglass were named to the All-Academic team in KVAC Class B.
Brunswick skiers Ben Donsbach, Ryan Duffy, Zoe Battle and Erin Coughlin were named to the All-Academic team.

Mt. Ararat/Brunswick grapplers won the State Class A Wrestling championship for the first time in 2019. Several wrestlers were recognized with Brycen Kowalsky (113 pounds, First Team), Mason Hultman (170, First Team), Spencer LeClair (132, Second Team), Caden Kowalsky (138, Second Team), Ben Laurence (152, Second Team), Cody Holman (160, Second Team) and Brady Mitchell-Damms (195, Second Team) honored along with Morse’s Ihsan Myers (182, First Team).
Eage Neringa Parotyte was named to the All-Academic team in wrestling.
Freeport
Freeport High School held its Award’s Night recently.
Alpine skiers receiving Athletic Excellence Awards were Maisy St. Cyr (girls), Paul Biberstein (boys) and Aaron Rusiecki (boys), while Falcons Pride & Character Awards were presented to Isabella St. Cyr (girls) and Parker Landsbergen (boys). Maisy St. Cyr and Landsbergen received an All-Conference nod in the Western Maine Conference.
In Nordic skiing, Coach’s Awards went to Lily Horne (girls), Allison Greuel (girls), John Giddens (boys) and Elias Dorsey (boys), with the FP&C presented to Katlyn Mosier and Henry Southall. Horne and Greuel, along with Giddens and Martin Horne, earned All-WMC honors. Grace Battarbee, Lily Horne, Finn Johnson, Biberstein and Liam Grogan earned All-Academic awards.
Freeport boys hockey players Anthony Panciocoo (7th Player) and Ian Souther (All-Star) picked up awards, while girls skaters Paige Rinaldi (Captain’s Award), Allison Perrotta (Most Improved, North Conference team member) and Margaret Perrotta (MVP/All-Star/Hoby Baker Award) were recognized. Atticus Patrick, Owen Patrick and Fabiana Spirdigliozzi received All-Academic honors in boys hockey, while Margaret Perrotta was recognized for her classroom achievements.
Cheerleaders Eli Maynard (Spirit), Tabatha Sabans (Coach) and Meaghan Erlebach (FP&C) received awards.

Basketball players were recognized after exceptional years. In girls hoops, Rachel Wall received the Most Improved Award, while Caroline Smith picked up the Achievement Award. The FP&C went to Abby Brier. Smith was named to the WMC First Team, while Wall was on the WMC Third Team.
In boys hoops, Kaleb Barrett (Most Improved), Eriksen Shea (Coach) and Leo Li (FP&C) were honored, with Toby Holt placed on the WMC First Team. Shea also earned All-Academic honors.
Indoor track standouts were recognized. Nick Mitch won the Finish Line Award, Boden Abbott the Starting Block Award and Dawson Pillow the FP&C. In girls indoor track, Emma Abbott (Finish Line), Emmie Riendeau (Starting Block) and Jessie Minieri (FP&C) were honored, along with swimmer Brian Brogan (FP&C). Earning All-Academic nods were Minieri and Mitch.
Also recognized was head football coach Paul St. Pierre, who received the Maine Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year award.
