ALFRED – An Acton man with a history of prior convictions on domestic violence related charges is facing two more and one of them is a Class A felony.
A York County grand jury on Tuesday handed up a three-count indictment against Emanuel Sloboda, who also goes by the name Imanuel Slobeda, 31. The indictment charges Sloboda with Class A felony aggravated assault, Class C domestic violence assault and Class C violation of conditions of release involving his former girlfriend.
In the indictment, the grand jury alleges Sloboda on Nov. 24 did “intentionally, knowingly and recklessly caused bodily injury under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life.”
He is being held at York County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.
Sloboda was released on bail earlier this year after an arrest on theft and burglary charges, which are pending.
He pleaded guilty in connection with Oct. 14, 2016 incidents of Class D misdemeanor charges of domestic violence terrorizing and criminal threatening involving the same woman and was sentenced to 10 days in jail for each plea, served concurrently, with credit for time served.
On Jan. 9, 2018, Sloboda was charged with Class C terrorizing and criminal threatening in connection with incidents involving his mother and sisters, but pleaded guilty in July to a Class D misdemeanor criminal threatening charge and was sentenced to 20 days in jail, with credit for time served.
In a news release issued soon after that incident, York County Sheriff William L. King Jr., said the crime took place after the family arrived in Acton after what the sheriff described as a harrowing drive with Sloboda behind the wheel, tailgating other motorists and driving in the oncoming lane. King said when they arrived in Acton, he threatened his mother with a knife.
He was free on $200 bail in connection with burglary and theft charges stemming from another incident in September when he is alleged to have assaulted his former girlfriend in the Nov. 24 incident.
A Class A crime carries a maximum prison term of 30 years, upon conviction. A Class C crime carries a maximum five years prison term.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt, but a finding that enough evidence exists to move forward with prosecution.
Sloboda is scheduled to appear at York County Superior Court in Alfred on March 6 to answer the charges.
