ORONO — Jeremy Swayman recorded a career-high 53 saves, and Maine got second-period goals from Alexis Binner, Eduards Tralmaks and Brady Keeper to break a 1-1 tie on the way to a 4-3 Hockey East win Saturday night against second-ranked Massachusetts.

Maine (9-12-3, 4-6-3 Hockey East) held on over the final 10 minutes after UMass (19-4, 11-2) cut the lead to 4-3 with a power-play goal by Jacob Pritchard and a short-handed tally by Mitchell Chaffee.

COLBY 3, BOWDOIN 2: Thomas Stahlhuth had a goal and two assists for the Mules (7-7-3, 4-6-2 NESCAC) in a victory over the Polar Bears (6-10-2, 3-8-1) in Brunswick.

Justin Grillo and Nick O’Connor scored 1:23 apart to give the Mules a 2-0 lead in the first period.

Bradley Ingersoll and Albert Washco got a goal apiece for Bowdoin.

WENTWORTH 7, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 5: The Leopards (6-10-4, 4-7-1 Commonwealth Coast) scored five unanswered goals spanning the second and third periods to rally past the Nor’easters (14-5-0, 8-4) at Everett, Massachusetts.

Jordyn Gauvin of Rhode Island College (12-7, 5-6) hit a jumper with 54 seconds to left in regulation to force overtime. She finished with 18 points.
