NEWCASTLE — The Mt. Ararat High School boys basketball team gave first-year coach Dave Dubreuil his first varsity win with a dominating 62-17 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Lincoln Academy on Friday.
The visiting Eagles are 1-4 heading into this upcoming Saturday’s visit to Biddeford at 1 p.m.
Mt. Ararat turned a 13-9 first-quarter lead into a runaway in the second, outscoring Lincoln, 20-2, for a 33-11 halftime lead.
Jared Balser led the win with 23 points, with Austin Damon adding 16 and Will Kavanaugh 10.
Joe Giberson paced Lincoln Academy with eight points.

Finn Mitchell scored 22 points, Noah Cox chipped in with 16, and the Dragons (3-2) outscored the Tigers (1-4) by a 13-6 margin in the fourth quarter to get the win in Biddeford on Friday.
Cody Saucier scored 26 points for Biddeford. Ashton Crowell added 12.
The Dragons host Greely this upcoming Friday at 1 p.m.
Girls basketball
BRUNSWICK — Brunswick jumped out to a 17-2 first-quarter lead and never looked back in earning a 60-37 victory over Biddeford on Friday.
The Dragons are 5-0 heading into Friday’s showdown with undefeated Greely. The game will be held at the Portland Expo at 11:30 a.m.
Logan Brown scored 15 points, dished out four assists, pulled down three rebounds and had three steals for the Dragons, while Alexis Guptill picked up 14 points, five boards and five steals. Charlotte MacMillan had the tall task of guarding Biddeford’s 6-foot-2 standout Grace Martin, holding her to two baskets and scoring 10 points with two blocked shots. Emily Larochelle chipped in eight points and led the Dragons with 10 rebounds, with Marley Groat running the offense with seven assists, six steals and five points.
Martin had 15 points (11 at the free-throw line) for Biddeford.

Haley Turcotte scored 42 points to power the visiting Phoenix to a Mountain Valley Conference win on Friday.
Callie Baker added 18 points, while Jaycee Cole chipped in 10.
Spruce Mountain led 35-3 after a quarter.
Kateleen Trask paced the Wolverines (0-6) with nine points and six rebounds.
Wiscasset hosts Boothbay Jan. 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Faith Blethen scored 23 points and the Seahawks (5-0) led 39-24 at the half as they defeated the Bobcats (0-6) in Richmond on Friday in MVC action.
Glory Blethen added 18 points.
Hannah Moholland led Richmond with 14 points.
The Bobcats visit Lisbon this upcoming Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Mt. Ararat earned its second win with a KVAC victory at Topsham on Friday against Lincoln Academy.
Theresa Breed and Elsa Daulerio each scored five points in the fourth quarter and Kyla Greenleaf hit all six of her free throws down the stretch as the hosts pulled away, ending a three-game losing streak.
Greenleaf led Mt. Ararat (2-3) with 19 points, including three 3-pointers. Ainsley Bryant had 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Alexa Eaton eight points, and Breed seven points and eight rebounds.
Chelsea Williams led Lincoln with 13 points. Eleanor Mathews contributed nine.
Mt. Ararat hosts Biddeford this upcoming Friday at 1 p.m.
