BIDDEFORD — Norbert L. Vereneau, 89, of Biddeford, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

He was born May 24, 1929 in Biddeford, a son of Josephat and Maria (Grenier) Vereneau and was educated locally.

Mr. Vereneau served with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and upon his return, married Blanche Chretien on Aug. 29, 1953 at St. Joseph Church.

A hard working family man, he had been employed as a machinist and foreman at Fafner Bearings in New Britain, Connecticut.  In addition he had worked as a building Superintendent and operated his own plowing business, retiring at the age of 75.

He enjoyed tinkering, doing yard work and the company of his beloved German Shepherd, “Sky.”

He was preceded in death by Blanche, his wife of 61 years on March 19, 2014 and by his three brothers, Gerard, Jean Paul and Armand Vereneau.

Norbert is survived by two sons, Raymond Vereneau and wife Darlene of New Britain, Connecticut and Steven Vereneau of Bristol, Connecticut; three daughters, Linda Vereneau of New Britain, Connecticut, Rita Swanson (daughter and caregiver) of Biddeford and Janice Labbe and husband Gary of Bristol, Connecticut; a brother-in-law Leopold Chretien of Biddeford who resided with him; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec.18, 2018 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
