RUMFORD — Mountain Valley outscored Richmond, 30-12 in the third quarter to pull away for an 87-50 Mountain Valley Conference win on Monday.

The Bobcats fell to 0-2 and host Oak Hill on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The host Falcons improved to 2-0.

Mountain Valley led 9-8 after a quarter and 33-23 at the half. The third quarter proved costly for Richmond, which fell behind 63-35.

Keegan Davis led the way for the Falcons with 20 points, while William Bean chipped in 15 and Taylor Pelletier 12.

Two players scored in double figures for Richmond, with Calob Densmore picking up 16 points and Kenny Bing 10.

At the free-throw line, the Bobcats were 13-of-18 and the Falcons 10-of-17.

Steve Reny scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the decisive third quarter as the host Seahawks (2-0) earned an MVC win over the Greyhounds, who fell to 0-2 and hosts Mt. Abram on Friday at 7 p.m.

Lisbon hung in, trailing 16-10 after a quarter and 33-24 at the half. But, Boothbay’s 27-point third quarter gave the Seahawks a 60-32 lead.

Hunter Crocker had 18 points for the Seahawks, with Benjamin Pearce adding 10.

DJ Douglass paced Lisbon with 13 points, followed by Corey Wiers with 10.

The host Bulldogs cruised to an MVC win over the Wolverines in Farmingdale.

Hall-Dale (2-0) held quarter leads of 29-13, 52-21 and 73-25.

Wiscasset (1-1) received 12 points, 15 rebounds and two assists from Matt Chapman, with Billy Pinkham adding nine points and Halden Danzing six.

The Wolverines host Madison on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The Wolverines made head coach Jamie Jones a winner in his debut as Wiscasset opened with an MVC win over the Cobras on Friday at Wiscasset.

Caleb Gabriele had 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots in the win, while Pinkham chipped in nine points and Chris Loyola eight points and five steals.

Wiscasset led 9-8 after a quarter, the teams were tied 17-17 at the half, and the Wolverines held a 33-26 edge after 24 minutes.

Girls basketball

NORTH ANSON — Carrabec jumped out to a 27-3 first-quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 70-16 MVC win over Wiscasset on Friday in season-opening action.

The Cobras (1-0) led 41-6 at the half and 61-6 after three.

Kateleen Trask and Zoey Waltz had six points each for the Wolverines (0-1). Sydnie Thayer had five rebounds and three steals, with Trask hauling in five rebounds.

Wiscasset hosts Hall-Dale tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Girls hockey

BRUNSWICK — Elena Clifford’s shot from the high post broke a tie in the second period Monday as Portland/Deering went on to a 5-2 victory against Brunswick at Watson Arena.

Clifford’s shot slipped below goalie Nadia Leiner’s glove to the short side, giving Portland (2-2) a 3-2 lead over the Dragons (0-4) with 5:23 to play in the period.

Caroline Lerch added a goal two minutes later and Emily Demers ended the scoring with an empty-netter in the final seconds.

Demers finished with two goals and an assist. Lerch also had a pair of goals.

Greta White and Beth Labbe scored for Brunswick. Leiner kept the Dragons in the game with 26 saves. Christiana Gannon had 14 saves for Portland/Deering.

The Dragons visit St. Dom’s in Auburn on Thursday at 5:20 p.m.
