LYMAN — On a summer day, if you were driving down Day Road in Lyman and spotted a red tractor in the field, it was probably Marcel. All summer long he was either cutting, raking, teading or bailing hay. He had approximately 20 head of cattle which needed feeding, but he did not consider this a chore, this was one of his passions.
Marcel’s love of animals was secondary to his love of family. He devoted his life to his wife, Anna and his six children. As his grand-children and great grands came along, he thoroughly enjoyed time spent with them. He was known to laugh and tease and tell a really good story. Not everyone can nail the punch line, but he could.
Words that describe his attitude toward life would be: “joie de vive!!” Other words would include: a genuine interest in others, a great sense of humor, kindness and an old-fashioned hard worker.
On the day before he passed away, at 92 years young, he was on his tractor and had lots of company, he would have called this a very “good day.” Marcel very much enjoyed when anyone would “stop over” for a visit. Two of his mottos were: “Get outside every day” and “Even if you don’t feel like moving, move anyway.”
As we reminisced about Marcel, one beautiful thought kept coming up. Marcel never criticized anyone. His children can vouch for that.
