OGUNQUIT — Miltiades C.” Milt” Vargelis of Ogunquit, Maine, formerly of Arlington, Massachusetts, died on Nov. 28, 2018 at the age of 74.

Milt was the proprietor of Charlie’s Restaurant and The Neptune Inn located in Ogunquit, Maine. He was born in Sanford, Maine, the son of the late Constantine and Dionesia Vargelis, who came to America from the Greek Island of Zakynthos.

Milt’s family moved to Arlington where he attended the public schools and graduated from Arlington High School. He attended Boston University but left his studies to devote full time to the family business. Milt was a dedicated environmentalist who enjoyed the beautiful Maine outdoors.

A member of the Ogunquit Conservation Commission, he worked to protect Ogunquit’s beaches, dunes and waterways. He was an avid sports fan, hockey player and follower of the Boston Bruins.

He is survived by his sister Nicoletta Vargelis Thoreau of Kennebunk, Maine; his brother Demetrios Vargelis of Natick, Massachusetts; his nieces, Maroo Theodoras Eymontt and Denise Theodoras both of Kennebunk, Maine: and his nephews, Jason Vargelis of San Anselmo, California, and Nicholas Vargelis of New York City and Paris, France. Milt is also survived by many cousins and extended relatives and friends.

Services will be private.
