The city plans to apply for federal funding and begin work later this decade on a project that was approved in 2015 in an effort to make the area safer for bicyclists and pedestrians while creating space to build housing.

More than 750 bikers gathered for the Maine Lighthouse Ride on Sunday, a fundraiser for the Eastern Trail Alliance. 25-, 40-, 62-, and 100-mile routes stretched from South Portland to as far as Kennebunkport.

A new series in the newspaper is asking readers to tell stories. Here's one of mine.

Meetinghouse, a new feature in the Telegram, aims to build community and entertain.
HOW TO SUBMIT TO:
On the first Sunday of each month we will publish writing on the following topics:
“Missed Call” – June 23 deadline.
“Pseudoscience” – July 28 deadline.
Submissions should be between 200 and 500 words in length. Please include your name, hometown, phone number, a line describing yourself and, if you can, a photo – either of you or something that works with your piece.
Submissions can be emailed to meetinghouse@pressherald.com; or mailed to Meetinghouse, Portland Press Herald, P.O. Box 1460, Portland, ME 04104-5009 (mailed photos should include a return envelope).
